PACKING CUBE SHOULDER BAG STRAP HACK

I just received my Black Halcyon PCSB today and wanted to share how I use it.

I wanted a 1" strap for it, as it does not come with one, so I hooked the FJN's strap to the sides as the photos will show. It was a tight fit, but worked perfectly and now I can hook my keys to the triangular shoulder strap anchor on the PCSB so my keys are always available without my having to search inside the bag.

I also attached my TB WALLET and a MINI ORGANIZER POUCH together (see photo), as my wallet. One for cards/coupons and one for cash.

My very small 3DOC in wasabi is my EDC, unless I want to bring the FJN with me, and it all fits along with my ipad mini, into the PCSB. Am LOVING this bag!!! I also bought one in Iberian to swap out for my jazzy days!

That's great, I've often wished my strap was a little wider. Thanks

    Hi there @anna222 and others,

You can actually now separately order the 1" Shoulder Strap that is supplied with the Side Kick, and use that with the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag or with the Side Effect. I think that it has been available for a couple of months now, although there was no specific announcement in the forums apart from some indirect references in a few posts.

This was actually the subject of a separate thread: Will 1" shoulder strap become available on its own? back when the Side Kick debuted last November.

The advantage of using the 1" Strap that was designed for the Side Kick, and that I linked above, is that the swivel hooks for attaching the strap ends to the strap attachment points make it easier to carry the PCSB.

The place where I use the Field Journal Shoulder Strap to hack other accessories is with the original design Snake Charmer (sold out about January 2017 after the new design Snake Charmer described in the linked blog was released), which has a pair webbing tabs at each end.

If you want to separately carry the original design Snake Charmer on a shoulder strap, in case of its use as a Diaper Charmer or as Snake Charmer: the perfect bag for this nurse! (especially the match to a stethescope), then the FJN strap connectors with their double Gatekeeper clip designs hook in perfectly to the Original Snake Charmer to use in offset attachment carry (i.e. hook one clip to a front webbing tab on one end of the SN, and the the other clip to the back webbing tab at the other end of the SN).

I'll excerpt one of the pictures from @Janine's diaper charmer thread so you can see the webbing tabs from above:

This next picture from my post [#9] in the Shoulder straps NOT by TB thread shows the FJN Shoulder Strap attachment to the webbing loops of the Snake Charmer

Here are some other pictures of how this FJN strap is attached:

You can see more pictures by following the link to the post, but here's what this looks like for the Snake Charmer, with one close-up shot of the Gatekeeper clip attached to the webbing loop. I'm not carrying around any extra FJN straps to easily snap a picture with the Double Carabiner Clip looped into the Gatekeeper clip end (especially since I have a 1" Breve strap that means I don't need to use this hack), but it's easy enough to do.

1" wide FJN accessory strap connected to a Navy (Cordura) Field Journal Notebook (left) and a Wasabi (500d Cordura) Snake Charmer (right). You can see that these straps do not have a Shoulder Pad, are adjustable, and are considerably wider than the 5/8" strap that comes with the Side Effect, but not as wide as the Standard Strap (with Shoulder Pad). They're also adjustable in length, and do not easily tangle.

Closeup showing the detail of how the Gatekeeper Clip at the end of the 1" wide FJN strap connects to the webbing loops of the FJN and Snake Charmer.

By the way @anna2222, I love the Azure FJN/pouches + new Black Halcyon color combination of your pictures.

    HTH

Looking at the overview picture of the PCSB packed, it appears the PSCB could fit a FJN along with 2 full 3DO's. Any one know if that would be possible?

I would be very curious to hear if that works as well.

    @organicfarmer & TRD:

Yes, it would absolutely fit the FJN AND two 3DOC's that are turned vertically

Thanks for the reply. I think for going through airport I will use my PCSB for my tablet (Surface 3), my 3DOC clear 3-1-1 bag, and get another 3DOC. I won't need to open my S25 at security and I will be able to use as my personal item or repack before boarding.

I have a feeling the designers at Tom Bihn must be great Tetris players seeing how all these bags and organizers fit together.
