Anybody ever "modded" their backpack for external carry?

I like having a few external straps for my flips flops, sandals, jacket or even shoes. Anybody tried to sew some on the side or front of a synapse bag? I am currently using a Tortuga Air for onebag travel and those side compression straps are really useful

I use the built-in attachment points on the Smart Alec and Aeronaut for this. If that's a feature you love, the Brain Bag has a lot of options for clipping on shoes, water bottles, etc. Plus, it has side compression straps that can easily hold a jacket.
Current Everyday Carry: S19 in Cloud/Island, 15C Cache, SE in Wasabi, SC in Fjord; Cubelets in Dawn, Canyon, and Grass, COW in Original Halcyon
Current Travel Carry: A30 in Original Halcyon/Ultraviolet, DLBP in Nordic, PCSB in Sitka, Large TT in Sitka, SSK in Wasabi, 3DOC in Solar

The brain bag looks great, but I'm looking for a 20-25 liters bag, and the Synapse (or Synik) is perfect for me except for missing a couple compression straps on the outside.

@n2n2, check out the Guide's Edition Synapse 25 with its lash strap points on the front and bottom, and see if that's the kind of thing you're looking for. That bag was a special run and isn't currently available, but they've said they're planning to offer a Guide's Edition Synik sometime next year so looking at the GE Synapse would give you an idea of whether you want to wait for the GE Synik. (Or if you like the Guide's Edition style you could also try checking eBay, sometimes a GE Synapse will show up there.)
I have a bunch of great bags. Favorite color combos include Aubergine/Island, Navy/Solar, Forest/UV, Original Halcyon/Wasabi, Cloud/Viridian... and now also Seapine/UV!

I've fulfilled my dream of palindromic-colored nested bags! Navy/Ultraviolet Pilot with Aubergine/Island Side Effect inside: blue purple purple blue. Forest/UV A45 with Aubergine/Wasabi Co-Pilot inside: green purple purple green.

There is a guide’s edition synapse 25 on eBay right now in nebulous grey.

TribeOne makes a few sizes of external netting that can attach to any bag from any place on the bag and/or you can just use the lash points / carabiners as hooks:
