My Synapse 19 goes with me by car for a stay of 2-3 nights every week or two. Mostly my destination is a property we own so I have most of my basics stored there anyway. If we go elsewhere I will put clothes in another bag.

So … here is what happens when weight and space are not critical.

The Uncurated Synapse...

The shiny thing with the black baggie is a champagne bottle stopper … which I had completely forgotten was there - have moved to the neglected left side pocket so I can find it for those odd occasions when there is bubbly beverage remaining in the bottle.

The Uncurated Synapse19 - part II

The lower front pocket

Bose Noise cancelling earbuds, another empty ziplock.

Upper front Pocket

cotten pads and buds in ziplock, throat lozenges, knee tape just in case.

syn1908.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/Ltx728), on Flickr

Main Compartment

Packing cube (size = aeronaut45 end pocket) with misc clothes
3D organizer cube - meds and first aid stuff
stuff sack - misc toiletries.
folding umbrella
Torch and belt pouch (yes, that's the third lighting device)
Organizer wallet with various shopping cards etc
Padded pouch with portable hard drive.

The packing cube takes up most of the space but leaves a useful gap at the bottom corners, due to the size of the bag. The torch fits nicely on one side and the umbrella on the other.

The 3D cube and the sack sit side by side in the inside pocket of the main compartment.

Everything goes in the same place every time so is easy to find … except for that champagne stopper…

I rarely use the bag in two-strap mode as it just goes from house to car to house … so I am probably not the typical user. It took me a long time to settle into it but am very happy with it now. Holds heaps and all readily accessible.

The Synapse19 is also meant to be my grab bag if I have to leave my house in a hurry .. which would be tricky as it is too heavy (4.9 kg !!!) and has that nasty curve in the back which makes it actually unusable as a back pack. Perhaps I need another dedicated bag for that.

A tale of two Synapses, part 1...

I am fortunate enough to have two (!) Synapse 19s - a new Cloud/Island, and a new-to-me Original Nordic/Steel. Since I use both bags differently, I thought I might show off some of my organization strategies.

I went on a weekend trip last week with the ONordic, and didn't get around to unpacking until today. Here's the whole pile, and the various ways I packed everything in. (As always, sorry for the terrible pics, but you get the idea.)

Don't Nordic and Sitka look great together? ;)https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/a3a0bc317380283ce08082cd7a7f5afa.jpg

Small Snake Charmer with toiletries fits in the bottom pocket.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/7f1e39ff17b5465af4a3a9140643f7f6.jpg

Top down: the Packing Cube Shoulder Bag holds two days of clothing (two each shirts, socks, underwear, plus one pair of pants and some leggings for sleeping). Notebooks and tablet tuck into the interior pocket.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/d54e433c75b0a7a58eae3af8d5e6ddab.jpg

On top of the PCSB, I packed a pair of folding flats, a Travel Cubelet that served as my purse after I arrived, and a Travel Tray. While traveling, I kept my phone and wallet in the left side pocket of the Synapse for quick access.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/783cabb08943d0a2a9e39f16e22f39e3.jpg

In the right side pocket, I kept my tiny 9oz Swell bottle.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/bb1f81df0db397cf372f490127927516.jpg

The Solar 3DOC was full of art supplies, and stayed in the center pocket, along with my beloved fish Baggu bag.

A tale of two Synapses, part 2

My Cloud S19 is my work bag. This poor bag gets stuffed with everything I think I might need during unpredictable work days - a rain jacket, snacks and tea, a first aid kit, a large Snake Charmer with a spare lightweight layer of clothing (the heat in my office is iffy), and my Side Kick with my regular purse stuff. Multi-tools and earbuds are attached in the small center pocket using my new forum gift. Large center pocket holds my laptop charger and a couple of Baggu shopping bags.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/acfb2a640bd6e2b19f0e58f22d9c0a5a.jpg

Top down...the Snake Charmer is flat on the bottom and the Cubelets (tea and sugar packets in the Grass, first aid in Dawn) wedge on either side. I use the key straps as pulls.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/208ef6c430f4716387bab07551ae80bc.jpg

The Side Kick sits perfectly on top of the Snake Charmer, and the bag closes perfectly around both.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/f0c1753f79e001abe47669c0ae39f662.jpg

In the right side pocket: Snacks and a mini Q Kit with some makeup for quick touch-ups.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180111/4faa73ddd7fc83635923ac23e855a25e.jpg

Sunglasses, lotion, lint roller, and hairbrush on the left side pocket. Not that we need sunglasses in the PNW this time of year.

Indeed! Thanks for posting these pics - I think? I’m dying for an S19 and have been really eyeing the Cloud and deep blue. How do you find the Cloud for showing dirt?

So far, no issues with Cloud and dirt. I don't baby my bags, so it's spent plenty of time on the floor of my car, surrounded by pet hair, and it still looks brand new.

I “strap” in two lightly filled 3DOs in the bottom compartment to have for “just-in-case” purposes (one with meds and first aid supplies, the other with personal but not used much items like a travel spork, small scarf, extra lip balm, etc.). I wish the fit was slightly looser inside the bottom compartment as the fit is a bit tight for easy in-and-out.

I also keep in fully packed Side Effect with all my most important essentials (wallet, key, ID, small digital camera) in the main compartment sitting in the “pouch” side on top of an Eagle Creek Packable tote to keep it closer to the top of the compartment for easy access. I strap this in also, but wish there was an O ring on the “pouch” side as the strap often gets in the way of my laptop and vice versa.

I love my Synapse 19! I use it daily for commuting into work, which includes two 30 minute walks. Super comfortable!

I also use the bottom section for just in case items too... they don't hold as much as 3DOCs, but I'm using two Cubelets, each leashed to an O-ring in the bottom pocket...one is meds/first aid and one is all the other small stuff... the spork could fit along the back but I have it in a side pocket instead.
The Cubelets fit side by side in that bottom compartment
