I've searched and searched and read all the good threads on Packing Cubes for the Brain Bag, but I guess I have a few other ideas I need to run past someone. I placed my first order with TB yesterday, so I'm still new to the whole system.

I ordered the following yesterday:

Brain Bag - French Blue
Cache - 6Z (work laptop or MacBook)
Snake Charmer, Large - Iberian
3D Organizer Cube, w/ wrist strap - Iberian
Key Strap, 8" Snap/Snap - Iberian

Remaining on my want list:

Travel Tray, Large or Small (?)
I want one for sure, but can't decide size, I think I'd rather pack the small, but in work trips I'd likely put 3+ sets of car keys in it in the evenings

2-3 Packing Cubes
My plan is to keep laptop, cords, work folders/papers, and the Travel Tray in the back compartment (nearest my back) and clothes for 2-5 days in the front. I want one Packing Cube that can be converted into a bag (eyeing Packing Cube Shoulder Bag), and I like the look of the Laundry Bag Stuff Sack, but can't decide a size... probably go for the larger. If I get a third (or fourth) 'extra' Cube, I'd like it to be for packing a pair of size 12 men's shoes (obviously, thin ones, or that can be squished).

Small Pouch
This would be for my work badge and/or passport. So... RFID passport pouch. Or one of the small halcyon or clear pockets (would be more for just the badge).

I'd really appreciate some guidance on the Packing Cubes (maybe I should wait and hope some things that fit better in the Brain Bag come to fruition?) and any insight on color. I can be a little picky with colors, and I'd like to stick with French Blue/Iberian/Northwest Sky/Black (and black halcyon) for stuff.

I definitely want to know if Island and French Blue are as near a match as they appear on the website. And, if there is a color that is "acceptable" to me now, is it wise to strike now or wait hoping for new colors? (Like... are Island and Iberian 2016 colors that will go away, or... I dunno, it just seems stuff comes and goes, etc).

Thanks

@Lainford Express,

Welcome to the forums. I don't own a Brain Bag, but you might try looking at @backpack's suggestions for the Brain Bag in the first post in the old Going marsupial! TB Bags that fit inside other TB bags (https://forums.tombihn.com/general-bag-discussion/3903-going-marsupial-tb-bags-fit-inside-other-tb-bags.html) thread. (Note that she is referring to this model Packing Cube Backpack for Aeronaut (https://www.tombihn.com/collections/packing-cubes/products/packing-cube-backpack?variant=16455290247))

French Blue is a slightly greyer blue than Island. The colors can go well together, but its probably not as close a match as you might judge from the product page images. Maybe another forum member can take a picture?

Island is the latest new shade of 200d Halcyon to enter the standard lineup of colors, so it's undergoing a lot of orders now from folks who have been waiting for its appearance. That's probably the reason you may see it go in and out of stock quickly. By the same token, its popularity in going out of stock as a new color, also means that the production crew are really ramping up to bring it back into stock quickly.

I don't know how closely you've been following along in reading the forum threads prior to joining, but in the long thread in preparation for the product debut, Darcy recommended that folks bookmark the page that was prepared to announce new debut items (https://www.tombihn.com/products/debut), and this was also referenced as way of quickly checking on the second production run restock of limited edition items (like the Little Swift). That original web page is no longer up among the "New" items, but the links may help you to find direct links to individual items in Island Halcyon that you might want to track. It does not include accessory items such the Island webbing key straps (ttps://www.tombihn.com/products/key-straps?variant=30944824647) in various lengths and O-ring/Snap hook end combinations.

HTH to get things started, and that you hear from other forum members who have experience with the Brain Bag.

@Badger,

On my monitor the comparison with French Blue looks really off! There are a number of good picture threads with French Blue on the forums, but Island is so new that I haven't seen a good comparison of the two together.

Some older threads that show French Blue individually and in comparison with other blues are @gochicken's The Blues (https://forums.tombihn.com/photos-videos-and-reviews/8128-blues.html) thread, @Ilkyway's French Blue and Aubergine (https://forums.tombihn.com/photos-videos-and-reviews/8269-french-blue-aubergine.html) thread, and another post (https://forums.tombihn.com/questions-about-bags/8263-blues-reds-organizer-pouches-post77807.html#post77807) by @icebeng in the Blues and reds in organizer pouches thread.

Another thread is @Ilkyway's All my blues, including Azure (https://forums.tombihn.com/photos-videos-and-reviews/8798-all-my-blues-including-azure.html) which shows a French Blue Daylight Briefcase:

I was looking for a reference in the FAQ about asking Customer support to send a Fabric Swatch, but I couldn't find a description of this.

@ moriond, on my phone and on my computer it looks exactly the same as it does in real life in natural light, and I am positive about the colors. I don't want to mislead though so I deleted the post with the photos.

Thanks, Badger, I'll check my phone display. The option to ask customer support for a fabric swatch is still another option.

Don't really get into the color discussion but I do have 3 Brain Bags so what are you thinking you need the other cubes for exactly?

I would just wait until you get the bag to see just how it might pack and then wing it from there but you might have different ideas?

What will you use the Snake Charmer for? They are a lot roomier than most people think they will be.

All of y cubes are from EC really and I also have big shoes but my 13s go into any shoe bag that I have tried too.

The BB are great bags,can't wait to see what you think.

I no longer have a Brain Bag. But when I did, I used either a Tri-Star/Western Flyer Packing Cube backpack or Tri-Star medium and small packing cubes in the front compartment for up to a week of travel. I also kept all my work stuff in the back compartment. I think two (maybe even 3) Packing Cube Shoulder Bags would work fine.

I did use a snake charmer originally, but tended to pack it too full, making it difficult to get in and out of the bag - just a heads up. However, the snake charmer fit down at the bottom nicely and I could set a 3D organizer cube and my Side Effect vertically on top of it and still have room for a rolled up jacket on top.

ETA: The small Tri-Star packing cube in fabric would probably fit your shoes. A small/end pocket Aether Aeronaut 30 or 45 packing cube definitely would. And all would fit horizontally in a Brain Bag compartment.
