View Full Version : Will the Synapse 25 accomodate an Aether Aeronaut 45 Large Packing Cube?

Just ordered a Tom Bihn Halycon Synapse 25 and excited  for it to arrive. Shopping around now for TB accessories.

Will a Tom Bihn Aether Aeronaut 45 Large Packing Cube (13.4" W x 13.4" H x 4.3" Thick) (340 x 340 x 110mm) very easily fit into the main compartment of a Halcyon Synapse 25?
The Synpase 25's listed measurement spec is: Dimensions: (13.4" W x 20" H x 9" Thick) (340 x 580 x 230mm).
With both the A45 Large Packing Cube and backpack listed as 13.4" width, how difficult might it be to accommodate the A45 into a Synapse 25?

I realize I could opt for a smaller TB packing cube like the TriStar Medium, but its both smaller and only 1/2 as thick, or the Medium Aeronaut 30 which is same thinkness as the A45, but it's 12" x 12" W and H smaller. That said, which of these TB packing cubes is best recommended for clothing (jeans, shirts, and tees) in the Synapse 25?

Thanks for all feedback and advice.

Hi scottyee and welcome to the forums!

I have tried out your setup request. It can be done but with a small "but".

As you can see here: the S25 tapers at the top.

So had I stuffed this cube to capacity, the corners would not fit inside:

If you allow for a bit of room though, you can make it work. Here is a Small Snake Charmer on top of the packing cube. This one is not full but it could well be with a bit spare room.

And here the backpack in side view when closed. All outer pockets are quite full here with a big sort of tin of tea in the bottom pocket so plenty of room there:

Here the tin as a bonus shot :-)

Hi Ilkyway, many thanks for taking the time to post the cool pics.
The colors look awesome together, and with the pink zipper pulls it nicely 'ties' everything together visually.
It took seeing your pics to see that the A45 takes up a little more main compartment space than I expected.
It's now down to purchasing the medium Tristar (12.8" x 11.3" x 2.4" thick) or large Aeronaut 30 (12" x 12" x 4.1" thick) instead.
Leaning towards the Aeronaut 30 as it would appear it's 4.1 vs 2.4" thickness might accommodate more? clothing. Anyone care to comment?

What about a couple of large travel stuff sacks? I have an S19 that fits a single large travel stuff sack perfectly, so maybe a couple? I like the way I can put clothes in the TSS size 4, hat and scarf and gloves in the size 2, travel down pillow in 3.... different colors and I can always pull out exactly what I need without unpacking the whole thing. I am not sure exactly what fits in the S25, but I really like the flexibility of the TSS.

The Stuff Sacks are due to the Halcyon Material hevier than the Eather Packing Cubes. Just adding this for consideration.

I use two to three small A30 Packing Cubes in my S25. I prefear multiple Packing Cubes over one large one as I feel I can sort and devide clothes better. To me that comes esspecialy handy after say half the trip where you can than put all the used clothes in one Packing Cube and have the fresh ones in another.

Thanks for posting. I'm also new and just brought the Synapes 25 and was wondering the same thing. I was going to go with the A30. Can I fit two A30's in there?
I'm so excited to get my bag!
