Since we are all talking about packing cubes right now, I thought it would be a good time to show some love for the A45 PCBP. What a great bag.

I use it as a lightweight playground bag where there might be some child outerwear to manage and little hands that need to be held (sorry Pop Tote) but I don't need the capacity of my S25.

It came as a complete surprise to me that ***the bottom pocket has a reversible zipper*** so you can store the bag inside out in the small pocket! It looks like this:

When stored this way it's super easy to toss it into a LSB or Pop Tote for your day out or trip to the store or shops, and then if you need to go hands free, you can remove the PCBP and put THE ENTIRE FULL TOTE BAG inside the large pocket of the PCBP. Seriously. Mind blown.

Here is proof (a Deep Blue Pop Tote then Viridian Large Shop Bag):

Plus, the bottom pocket is fantastic. I sewed two rings into it for attaching a 3DOC and Cubelet (gotta have diapers and snacks at all times). It's also great for hats and mittens. (Excuse the little hand that couldn't resist the pompom on my hat!)

In short, there is so much to love about this bag. It may look a bit... square but it is so lightweight and versatile and I'm so happy to have it.

I am not kidding when I say the only reason I became interested in the A45 is the photo of it in Sitka on the product page. The one where it is on the table next to the binoculars. Such a striking photo!

Such a gorgeous color - Grass and Viridian are lovely, but still don't come close.

When I was looking to pick up a PCBP to try out I picked the A30 PCBP, with its hinged top/bottom. That one is cool and flashy but not necessarily more useful than the A45 PCBP that this thread is about.

It comes down to what you want to carry, I suppose. I think that the A45 PCBP is slickly understated and nicely evokes the feeling of the more organized bags like the Synapse with its chin pocket. It's a shame that this color has been retired!

As a minimalist that is what constantly drives my love of Tom Bihn bags, their multitude of uses and usefulness. I thoroughly enjoy reading the forum posts others have written upon finding yet another clever use or hack for Tom Bihn products.

Gosh, been considering the A30 PCBP but seeing how this whole thing folds into the chin pocket...

Me too. I ended up getting it in Steel when that came back into stock, which I'm happy with because it matches everything. It looks gorgeous in Sitka though!

Packing Cube Backpacks in all their forms, are lifesavers, especially if one wants an organized, yet lightweight and versatile accessory with the rugged (Yeoman Duffles)(Cordura Brain Bags); sophisticated (Ballistic) or ultralight (Aether) Travel Bags.

Since the first trip I took with my first Packing Cube Backpacks with my first Tom Bihn Bag.

I used them alternatively to precise pack my clothes; organize the daily vacation outfit; unpack really fast for a fancy event (zip out one compartment of Travel Bag, pull out fancy clothes Packing Cube Backpack and accessories/makeup cube/extract full outfit from husband Packing Cube Backpack/ freshen up/get dressed/made up while keeping an eye on the clock and verify directions/ gift is there; as a light backpack on a whale watching cruise; an EDC to keep essentials during a scorching hot summer; under the bed storage of must have for the day after a move when nothing has a place and one needs to find one clean outfit to organize and unpack the box of work clothes/bathroom stuff/linen/two cups and one pot to make tea.

One of the most versatile of Tom's inventions, besides o-rings, which -are- included in Packing Cubes Backpacks!

Does the introduction of Island Aether mean that Island Donation Cranes will be available?

Oooh. I've gone back and forth on the use/need for a PCBP in my life, but that may have just opened up some interesting possibilities.

@Cristina, about how big is the PCBP when folded up to store inside itself like that please?

It is about 5"x5"x 13.5". You can squish it down to just a couple of inches thick but if it is on a shelf this is the size/shape it will take.
