I ordered a MCB to use for a library bag and because I saw that it was available in plum/olive. I don't have anything in plum. Well, now I do! It is a beautiful color! I really love my SCB because it's just the right size for me to use as a purse when I'm carrying more than what fits in my pockets or SE.
I thought for a minute about returning it, but then I discovered that my 13" MBP fits inside. I love how versatile TB bags are!
Oh, I also ordered a small clear organizer pouch for receipts and they sent me a cocoa one! I don't have anything in cocoa and I immediately fell in love with the color!

Onward to pictures!!

One thing I love about the MCB is how soft the strap is compared to the one on my SCB. It was also a deciding factor in keeping the bag. So soft. So snuggly.

I've noticed this, too! I have several Cafe Bags, and some have the thicker, stiffer strap, and others have the soft one with the pleasing vertical lines. I'm not sure what the process is of deciding which bag gets which strap. It doesn't correlate with size of the bag. It does make a big difference. I'll likely be letting go of my MCB in Nordic/UV because I don't care for the stiffer strap.

The bags are gorgeous! Congrats! I love plum, it's such a lovely shade of purple. I've had my plum cafe bag for 2-3 years and I just never stops looking beautiful no matter what I put it through.

The Cafe Bags switched from the softer strap to the stiffer one for a time, before returning to a softer strap again. I believe my post was the first to ask about it: http://forums.tombihn.com/questions-about-bags-accessories/5513-cafe-bag-strap-change.html . And there was more information and a happy update from Darcy in this similar thread: http://forums.tombihn.com/questions-about-bags-accessories/6509-cafe-bag-strap-changes.html

I returned a Nordic/Ultraviolet SCB because of the stiffer strap and purchased a Plum/Wasabi SCB that at the time was the only bag available with the softer strap in a color combination I liked. Now that the softer strap is back, I'm tempted by the Parapack cafe bags, but sad that the Portable Culture label is gone. My guess is that all new cafe bags have the softer strap, but there's a chance of getting a stiffer strap in non-Parapack cafe bags until they're all sold (and not returned).

I have a. MCB with the stiff strap - it's waiting for me to get it to a decent repairer to remove the strap so I can use it with the small version of the absolute strap i bought for it - i was planning on bringing it on my current trip but just couldn't use it with the stiff strap.

Otherwise i really like it ..

Since my SCB was one of my first TB purchases, I am quite fond of it and I don't even care that the strap is more stiff than the squishy, cuddly one on the MCB. Since the stiff strap is what I'm used to, the squishy strap was quite a pleasant surprise, but it's not enough for me to want to disown my SCB and try to get a new one with a squishy strap. I guess I'm not that picky of a person in general...I'm easy to please! Whatevs!

Pretty much all the current Cafe bags use the softer strap. Unless you have a small or medium Cordura cafe bag that stayed in stock from before November 2013, you have the softer strap. Looking at the current color combinations, I don't see any combinations on the product pages that are likely to have the stiff strap. My Azalea small Cafe Bag (with Portable Culture label) has the stiff strap, but that's the only one for me.

Love the purple overload! My plum/wasabi MCB went with me to the dentist today - perfect for carrying a knitting project to keep me distracted on the bus :)

I'm envious of the linen/steel SCB, though - I'd love a linen bag for summer, but thought that the navy lining of the recent batch was too dark.

It IS pretty great! It was my first TB bag! The only thing I would *maybe* change would be the new softer version of the strap that is on my new MCB, but that's it. Since it's just a SCB, the stiff strap doesn't bother me since the bag is never heavy. Whatevs! :)

I would probably kill for a Linen/Olive bag, though...maybe not. But that would be an amazing color combo!

May be worth an inquiry, but FYI - I inquired about adding a no-slip grip pad to a bag I bought secondhand that had the pad cut off by the original owner. CS said that the cost of adding the pad is equivalent to building a new bag from scratch, as the strap has to be removed and all parts resewn together, so it was not a time-efficient project for them to take on. I can understand that.

I have a plum S19, FJN, pouches and probably something I'm not remembering. I love plum, aubergine is really nice but nothing beats plum.

I just picked up an Olive/Olive LCB and it seems to have the softer strap. (I started with Linen, but didn't like the Parapack lining). As for the missing grip, just get the Ultrasuede wrap. I use one on my MCB and it's very nice.

And keep an eye on EBay--I have a linen/Olive SCB from EBay and it is wonderful!

Oh, that's not even close to the whole collection, but thank you very much! Once my Aeronaut and WF get back from overseas, I'll take a family photo! I do think that I am going to be selling my Navy/Wasabi Aeronaut and maybe even my Aubergine/Steel iPad Ristretto since I'm leaning more towards using my MCB for toting my iPad with me. Since I'm planning on buying an A30, I don't think I'll have a need for the larger Aeronaut any longer. Decisions, decisions!

I'm passing the time until the new announcements by ordering MORE bags. Today I finally got my cocoa/olive MCB and an Aubergine/ultraviolet PP! I fell in love with the MCB after I got the plum/olive one, so I decided to grab one in UPS brown! ;) the only problem is that I'm going to want to carry both at the same time...the struggle is real.

06-13-2014, 09:29 AM
Actually, I am waiting on an Olive/UV SE to come my way. Luke managed to find the very last one in the store even though it was not available for order online! woohoo! My only reservation with the Aubergine SE is that it would be stiffer and heavier than the dyneema or parapak ones. Would that be correct?

WenV, that is correct. I have two ballistic SEs and one olive parapak/UV (this combo is awesome--you will love!!) and the parapak fits a bit more as it is more flexible. i actually really like the ballistic stiffness, though, as i can open with one hand.

WenV
06-13-2014, 09:39 AM
Thanks, luvdbags! That's good to know about the stiffness. My main use of the SE is as an internal bag inside another TB bag, so pliability is an important factor for me. I'm looking forward to seeing and handling the Olive/UV SE after seeing the parapak material first hand. At first I didn't think much of it but the more I handle and see the material, the more I like it...

I only usually use my SE for a minimalist purse when my pockets aren't enough (darn you, women's pants pockets!!!) and a SCB or MCB is way overkill, so I like the stiffness of the Ballistic. I'm not a very big fan of UV, but it does look okay with the Aubergine PP. I'm going to start using this PP for my wallet (I hardly ever carry cash...my cash goes into a tin so I can save up to get more tattoos or TB bags! hehe) since I only carry a few cars with me at a time including my ID, debit card, a credit card, insurance cards, and deli rewards card. My other lesser used cards are organized and nestled into my Hemp clear organizer wallet!

WenV
06-13-2014, 10:45 AM
@Moosezilla...yes, I also use the SE as a PLO when I don't want to lug my TB work bag (Black Pilot) around the supermarket (quick grocery dash on the way home from work) with me. I actually quick like the lightness of the Dyneema, it feels like I'm carrying nothing. With the PP that I have (black) I only use it for store loyalty cards, I don't feel confident that I could carry my ID/credit cards safely without one or two falling out somehow. My important but lesser-accessed cards are stored in a TB wallet, separate to my regularly accessed wallet (currently a Waterfield Finn Wallet which also holds an iphone 5, if i choose to only carry wallet and iphone, for example, when going for a walk).

I was using a pouch that zippered that I got when I was in Berlin, but decided to switch back to the PP since I've cut down on which cards I carry on my person at all times. I used my forest/Iberian PP as a wallet for over a year and never had any issues with cards falling out. I just turned it upside down and shook it and nothing happened. When I hulked out and gave a good snap of the wrist, only 3 of my cards came out. That was a fun experiment...hehe

WenV
06-13-2014, 11:05 AM
Perhaps I'm just a bit paranoid...as even the Finn wallet is a zippered one. hehehe...

Talking about MCB, I bought my Steel/Cayenne version in 2012 and still love using it. I interchange it with my Nordic/UV SCB when I don't need to carry kids' water bottles/snacks. Recently I ordered a Linen/Navy SCB, in order to have a solid color for a SCB. Quite looking forward to it. Prior to that, my husband bought me the Cocoa/Wasabi Imago as a travel/diaper bag (back in 2009). I don't use it so much now but am still fond of it and am thinking of using it as an emergency bag (to be stored in the car) for backup clothes for kids (I have two young boys).

WenV, you're going to love the linen/navy SCB. I just received a LCB in that combo the other day--it's gorgeous! I think cafe bags are my new obsession. In the past month I've went from having none to having a MCB in olive/steel parapak and the LCB and carrying them everywhere. I also have the 400d Nordic and Black PCSBs, and although I called the Tom Bihn folks about four times between April 1st and when my PCSBs shipped in May about the possibility of 400d Steel Dyneema PCSBs I got the answer that it was only being made in 200d Dyneema (which I already had). The only negative is that if I got a PCSB in 400d Steel Dyneema I'd have to worry about @icebeng coming to my house to steal it. (He probably wouldn't be motivated to make a visit by the single 8" Storm Keystrap that I also have.)

Here's a quick snap of my Nordic/solar SE with a Storm-colored key strap. I thought they matched nicely. At least I think it is Storm...pls correct me if I'm wrong, however. I bought this a while back now...http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/14/u9a6u3up.jpg

Very nice mix of colors, WenV!

TB Crew!
PLEASE consider a batch of key straps in Storm after the back orders are filled?
I would gladly grab 10 in each length if you do! ^.^
