View Full Version : My Nordic Family Photo

I got my last Nordic order today, and thought it's high time I get the gang together for a nice family photo. I didn't truly realize how much I had until I kept having to go back into the house to get it all.

My son came out to hold my camera reflector, and said, "Mom, is that ALL your Tom Bihn stuff?"

I laughed. "No, sweetie, this is just the stuff in Nordic Dyneema."

"Mom," he says, soberly, "You have a problem."

Problem? What problem? I don't have a problem. I'm fine. (He doesn't think I have a problem when he visits his grandparents and needs my Synapse 19 for the plane).

Wow!! Stunning! Love how your picture shows the depth of hues in Nordic - the color changes subtly as you go from sun to shade in the photo.

Holy Nordic (no pun intended Hollie)! Fantastic matching collection!

... I second the purchase of Nordic Shop Bags (large and small) ... and a Nordic Tri-Star PCBP while you are at it ... before stock of this discontinued color is gone :(

Cheers!

[QUOTE=Hollie;67609] "Mom," he says, soberly, "You have a problem."

When Judge Dredd arrived at my office on the jumbo box, I was told "You have a problem". My fault. I usually avoid the co-working hazing by shipping to home but it was a startling misdirection. Tried to tell them don't walk this way, but then they got curious and there was no turning back.

Some of my favorite razzes:
"Didn't you just buy a bag for your trip to Budapest last year?"
Last year? This isn't an eclipse. We're going to be seeing the boxes way more regularly than once in a blue moon.
"Look at all that stuff! Which one did they throw in for free after you wiped out their warehouse?"
Wrong time of year, sir, to be looking for limited edition gifties.
"You should name your next dog Tom Bihn."
If it got me a frequent buyer's punch card, I'd seriously consider it.

Amazingly, at no time during my hazings, have I been asked "What are you going to do with all that stuff?" Do you think they're wise enough not to open Pandora's Box (a.k.a. a sermon on Bihn utility as I see it). LOL

Haha! You know, no one ever asks me what I'm going to do with them, either. They just sort of nod in what I choose to believe is respect and awe.

My son, helping me haul them all back upstairs, says, "I'm going to call them all Tom Bihns."

"What? The bags?"

"Yeah, instead of 'bags' I'm going to call them 'Tom Bihns'."

"Honey, you realize Tom Bihn is an actual person, right? He's the person who originally designed these bags, the company that makes these bags belongs to him. His name doesn't mean 'bag'. He's a human being."

"Oh I just thought that was the name of, like, a kind of bag."

I laughed so hard I almost dropped my armful of Nordic.

Yeah! He's so used to me talking about my "Tom Bihn bags", I think he just thinks of them as THE BRAND, the way Kleenex means facial tissue. It just cracked me up, and of course he couldn't see what was so funny. Those adults and their mysterious senses of humor...

It'll be even better some day when we're out and he identifies one in the wild and compliments someone. "Oh, nice Tom Bihn Cafe Bag," from an 11-year-old boy.

I went ahead and bought a Large Nordic Shop Bag, and a Small Solar Shop Bag. I don't have a single Shop Bag, so this will be fun to try, and I grabbed the Solar because that's my second favorite Dyneema color and it's almost gone, too. :) Also this way I can tell the large and small shop bags apart easily. Many thanks to my hubby, who agreed to this just days after me making "My final Nordic order, I SWEAR!"

100% true about the shop bag's replication ability (like tribbles!). But after seeing Hollie's Nordic Family Photo, and feeling the 200d on this bag, I decided to exchange my new UV & Iberian for Nordics. I have 2 L, 1 S Nordic & a black already and the 400d is supreme. Kroger is regularly astounded as I easily carry out dozens of Propel bottles in my Shop Bags. Ill keep one pair of Iberian because the 200d has its use in folding up easy within a pack but for heavy lifting I'm sticking with the 400 colors.

Thanks Hollie for reminding me I should stick with old faithful rather than span the rainbow. You are going to love your Shop Bags and wonder how you ever lived without them. Mr. Bihn nailed the design on this one.

Yeah, that's why I finally went ahead and got one. I'd had the shop bag as a low-priority item because I already have a ridiculous number of reusable shopping bags, in cotton, canvas, hemp, and nylon. But then......last of the Nordic and Solar.....I just had to go for it. I'm curious if mine will replicate the way Trailhiker's have.

Great photo! So pretty! I always think, and others have mentioned, that all the colors are lovely and it's so nice to have variety, but as I've been collecting the Nordic I just feel like there's something so striking when all the pieces are that lovely blue and white.

And yes I'd vote for you getting a large! :) Might as well go for it now before they're gone.

@kkintea That looks like an old Sapphire Dyneema Passport Pouch sitting in back of the Nordic Clear Organizer Wallet and Side Effect on the left, and the Nordic Travel Tray on the right, and in front of the Nordic Swift and Co-Pilot. You can tell that the Sapphire Dyneema color has a royal blue tone, and the squares are the slightly smaller size characteristic of the 200d Dyneema fabric. I have the original Shop Bag in Sapphire, along with the Passport Pouch and the Clear Pen/Pencil Pouch in Sapphire Dyneema, as well.

Sapphire Dyneema also goes well with both Solar and Wasabi (which came along long after Sapphire had its brief run). If you want to see pictures of Sapphire against Wasabi, you can take a look at the last picture in this post (http://forums.tombihn.com/tom-bihn-news-everything-else/5210-introducing-aubergine-1050d-u-s-ballistic-nylon-4.html#post41085). Users of the older TapaTalk for iPad app may have to find this post by going to the Introducing Aubergine 1050d U.S. ballistic nylon (http://forums.tombihn.com/tom-bihn-news-everything-else/5210-introducing-aubergine-1050d-u-s-ballistic-nylon.html) thread and finding post #51 dated 09-20-2012, 11:01 AM. These pictures were taken with my iPhone camera, so color fidelity is not great. The Sapphire Dyneema Shop Bag was also shown in @maverick's original video on how to fold the Shop Bag.

Where did your passport pouch come from?

eBay. Alone, it looks blue, but nestled in with Nordic, you can see the purple hue.

Yup, that purple hue of Sapphire goes well with Indigo. My Sapphire Dyneema Shop Bag usually sits in the right front side pocket of my Indigo Synapse (19) -- the one without the pen and pencil slots. It nicely picks up the "royal purple" tones of the Indigo. Both colors look great with Kiwi Ballistic Nylon.

Hollie may I ad my Nordic-Familly picture here? We have allover seen enough of these but I said in some thread (that I cant find right now) that I would post this round-up when my last Nordic Item would be here. And although I am still hoping for one of the new bag to came in the very last Nordic fabric that might be left I am not as hopfull anymore since the last batch of Shop-Bags and others where made.

The first picture is an old one and the second picture is all of the nordic there is in this household:

My husband came in the garden while I was taking the picture. He asked: is this your happy place? Well, if we are talking worldly possessions it might be it. We all know that laughing children and a good marriage range much above this but I would not trade a Diamond Ring for these bags.

Edit: I was missing an "a" in may. It looked odd.

Oh they're so beautiful! Our collection is much alike! :)

I am regularly teased by friends about All The Things There Should Be In Nordic Dyneema. I just smile and nod.

"Why YES, reupholstering my Prius entirely in Nordic Dyneema IS a great idea! I'll be sure to write the company."

"Ha ha! You think you're being funny but a Nordic Dyneema guitar case is a fantastic plan!"

"It's true, the only thing missing from my summer wardrobe IS a tailored blazer in Nordic Dyneema."

The jokes never seem to get old.
