View Full Version : Lil' ol' A30 of mine (or, first impressions...)

Hi all,

Never posted to the forum before, been a long time lurker/snooper, but I thought I'd post my new goody courtesy of TB (via UPS...).

Today I received my new A30 in Black/Iberian and I couldn't be more tickled. It's exactly what I hoped for for the longest time ...basically a Aeronaut form factor in a TS size. I wish it was available in Navy/Iberian like my TS ...but that's ok since my Aeronaut (aka A45) is Black/Steel, so I'm happy :o

I'm sure looking forward to packing up this guy ... it's exactly the right size I've been looking for. Now I'm totally covered for all my travels ... business (TS), smaller leisure (A30) and 'larger' leisure (A45). All other bags I have are going on ebay.

Anyway, a huge 'thank you' to Tom B, the entire crew at TB, all the wonderful posters on the forum who have given me so much inspiration and enjoyable reading, even my local UPS guy who knows me all too well for all the deliveries he makes to me.

Dave

I believe the correct response is: "SUPER JEALOUS". :p

Can you pack it up and show it beside a stuffed A45? Strongly considering purchasing one for my wife, who at 5'-5'1" looks awkwardly disproportionate with my A45 (Navy/Iberian; fantastic colour combination).

Let me see what I can do this weekend. Just arrived last night and all I did was fuss over it
for a time before going to bed LOL.

Its so funny ... it really is a 'pint-sized Aeronaut' - and exactly what I wanted (AND the improvements
such as both end pockets being zip closed and the 'zipper' extenders on the inside for the end pockets
are a great touch)

I've never been able to improve on the Aeronaut form factor with any other bag I've tried. All I wanted
was one a bit smaller. The A30 landed square on target.

Thanks eW !

I've creeped around the forums like a stalker forever, picking up vast tidbits of
knowledge from all the posters here. Figured I'd better show my face finally...

Only tiny regret is that it wasn't available in Navy/Iberian... love that combo.

Neat (short) story ... when I bought my TS in Navy/Iberian, I received the box with
great enthusiasm, opened it up ... and inside was a Navy/Iberian A45 ! I knew that
it wouldn't be a problem with getting it exchanged (that fantastic customer service
again ...) but I sure drooled over that Aeronaut. I sat there and compared it with
my Black/Steel A .. and entertained 'accidentally' slipping the black one in the return
box LOL.

Needless to say the honorable voice in my head  was louder than the evil one, and it
went back and a TS was dispatched post haste.

It sure was purty though ....

Wow! Looks awesome. Thanks for giving hope to those of us suffering from TBAS that we, too, will not have to wait til mid-August.

ldave1 thank you for signing in to share THIS! Great picture, and I too would ask (what the heck: more like beg) you to do some side by side pictures with the two Aero-Brothers.

Ilkyway ~

Will do! I'll try and 'pack' them both and do a photo-op this weekend.

No trips planned in the immediate future - so I have to do SOMETHING with my new toy ...

Finally a decent picture of the inside zipper part of the side pockets!
Edit: a Coyote dyneema would look great inside the black A30.

Sweeeeet!!! And you are feeding my TB addiction. I too have both an Aeronaut 45 and Tristar. But now you are telling me that I should use the TS on business, A45 on larger leisure, and an A30 on "smaller leisure". Hmmm... I think you might be right! Will have to ponder that one. Beautiful bag!!!

NICE!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited that perhaps (just perhaps?!) my new A30 will be in the order that is supposed to arrive this upcoming Monday! Thanks for posting, ldave1!! Let me add more exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave,
Thanks for posting your A30 pic. I have have been itching to add myself to the backorder list for that one. I'm a minimalist traveller, so I think this would compliment my (arriving on Tuesday) Synapse 25, and be my main travel system. I could probably cover 90% of my travel needs with that combo.

Holly, when you did not add or remove something from your order, you can tall by the number in your shiping-confirmation-mail (looks like this: Order # Order 194097) with your orders. If you did know this just say: and what else is new?

Nice, it has the "new" Logo in it. I like it, it has my year of birth in it. Will you tell us your lining color or do you want the tension to build up till Monday ;-)

The background is still grey; natural light was being reflected off of it.

Hi All ~

I tried to 'pack' my A30 and A45 with the help of some pillows (much to my cat's great consternation )
and show it against each other and also threw in my TS as well.

It's not a LOT smaller - but just right.

Any more views, I'll try and post them - let me know!

Dave

PS - I do wish it had the 'Portable Culture' tag though .... like my A45.

Awesome, thanks! Is it appreciably narrower? Perhaps a side by side standing back to back?

Ilkyway, to be honest I hadn't actually logged in recently to check the details of what actually shipped (I assumed the A30 hadn't shipped until I saw this forum thread). I just checked my order and hooray!! my A30 (steel/wasabi) did ship--in fact everything I order shipped--and will be here by end of the day on Monday! Now I'm going to think about this obsessively ALL weekend. I think I may have to do a practice pack for my next trip (Outer Banks, North Carolina beach trip at the end of July) this weekend...

What does the new tag say underneath the plane and above the bottom line?

Definitely don't need an A30, since I have a TS and WF, too, but that doesn't make me want one any less...

No, that would be the bottom line. What does it say above that?

Procrastination fail. I'd been hemming and hawing ordering a steel/UV A30 for the wife, hoping to see more pictures of it in action before pulling the trigger, and now it is in the same late September backorder bucket as the black BN A30s. D'oh!!!

We would need the bag for early October, so I guess that SHOULD still be ok. OR I switch to her alternate colour combination: Aubergine/Wasabi. Dilemma dilemma...

If only my cousin's wife who we are travelling with didn't already have an Aubergine/Steel TS...

@Moose and @bb93fo57, I was right there with you in repeating that mantra for several days before finally succumbing. And this was BEFORE seeing @Idave1's lovely photos! Resistance is futile. :)

@taminca: Haha. Yep, I am starting to get that feeling! :-)

Am already hard at work on a good solid rationalization.

My decision is getting a little easier now that one of the colors I'd been considering (Steel/UV) just went on later backorder (as @itsablur noted above), so now I don't need to debate between it and Steel/Wasabi.

If it weren't for my undying love of Aubergine, Steel/Wasabi would have been my pick given all of the wonderful photos of Steel Ballistic bags Forum members have posted. (I do not yet have a TB bag in Steel.) WHEN you get that Steel/Wasabi A30, @bb93fo57, please post photos :)

Yes, PLEASE POST. I am on the fence about a ballistic A30. I *would* order the steel/wasabi combo given the current choices, but I am hesitant about going with the ballistic fabric. I also already have the A45, TS, and WF.... I would love the A30 in parapack or more dyneema options. I have tried twice to love black dyneema and both times the bags went back :/

Color combos that would seal the deal: Nordic exterior (wishful thinking), Solar interior (chances probably aren't good here, either), Black or Steel parapack exterior... new 400d Dyneema exterior (ultra super-duper stop the presses order everything wishful thinking).

For those who get the A30 early, I'd be really interested in knowing what personal bag works well with it. I am really torn between my Synapse 19 (which means I would carry the A30), and a shoulder bag (which means I could wear the A30 on my back). The trip I'm using it for involves lots of long flights with layovers, and then travel via public transportation where I'll be walking a lot.

I ordered the black dyneema A30. I also was really vacillating between dyneema and ballistic. Parapack would have been an interesting option, though my experience so far is that it smudges more easily than any other material. I'm kind of betting on the bag being small enough so that I can keep it with me all the time, (not checking it or throwing it underneath a bus in the luggage hold), which may turn out to be an optimistic assumption.

Badger

@bchaplin, you can keep it with you all the time. It would work great with a Pilot or Co-pilot, or with a synapse if you want to carry the A30 using the strap.

Here's the A30 next to an S19 for scale; hope it helps.

Thanks, @Badger!
Ideally, I'd take my Synapse with me, because I think it would do a better job of fitting the overflow items than my Co-Pilot, and it would make a good day bag. But that means I need to handle the A30 using the shoulder strap all the time, which is probably OK (?). It is not that much larger than my Western Flyer was, and that wasn't a problem to hand-carry.
