Tips for Daylight Backpack packing for a compartment lover?

Hi @TacitusKilgore, welcome to the Forums! I'm not sure what you're asking--are you wondering if the size 2 Travel Stuff Sack fits in the front zip pocket of the Daylight Backpack flat if the TSS (travel stuff sack) is empty or only has flat things in it? If so, the answer is yes... but I'm not sure if that's what you were asking. If you fill the TSS to capacity, it will make a very obvious bump when you put it in the front pocket of the Daylight Backpack.

By the way, there is also a Daylight Briefcase so be careful about just using the word "Daylight" to refer to either one! Beware of their similar acronyms too: DLBP vs DLBC.

I think a mini or small Ghost Whale and/or Q-Kit is a great idea, but I am slightly biased because I tend to like having just the right pouch or pocket for each thing. If that's your style too, then go for it! And the size 2 TSS is the size I turn to most often--I find it very useful for holding a cardigan or a carefully rolled rain jacket (carefully rolled because that's the only way my rain jacket will fit) so they don't get wrapped around and mixed into everything else in my bag.

Thank you! I meant empty in the front. I mainly would probably use the sack for some damp or dirty clothes, snacks, or to wrap a souvenir or two in my travels.

Was thinking the small Ghost Whale in mesh for sunglasses and things like that, then a mini Q Kit for anything small I may want to hold. Will that fit a passport or two?

I am short and have I guess relatively narrow shoulders, so I can be picky about straps. I often take both the DLBP and PCBP (I think it's the WF edition) with me on trips as overflow/daypacks. They work differently on me though:

- the PCBP is a bit long and tends to sit on my lower back when I walk. (I still bring it because it maximizes space as a packing cube, and other - taller - people can use it as a daypack when we get to where we're going.) I like to bring a bandana or ribbon to tie the straps together as a DIY sternum strap, otherwise the straps tend to slide off.

- The DLBP is slightly shorter than the PCBP and surprisingly comfortable for its lean design. I even use it as a daypack when I'm home/not traveling, but need a minimal pack (e.g. going to a show/museum/some place where I can't or don't want to bring all my EDC with me). I don't find that I need to secure the straps across the front, unlike the DLBP. I don't know if that means it's better balanced than the PCBP, or just a better fit for my shape. I also feel that the shingle pockets and slightly shallower front pocket (because shorter than the PCBP) work as substitutes for the built-in organization I would otherwise have with my S19, or extra compartments that I would keystrap/Freudian-Slip into a bag otherwise.

I'd say for me the DLBP comes out ahead if I have to choose between the two you mentioned. But if I had to choose only one TB bag that would be my EDC/personal item for travel, then I'd go for the S19. (S25 for bigger folks; possibly one of the two Luminaries if I was more minimalist, though I haven't actually had hands-on experience with these. Oh, and if we're talking zombie apocalypse bag then I choose the Smart Alec instead! ) If price is a factor then I'd stalk eBay or the swap/BST forums for a previously-owned S19 - primarily because I think the straps are a tad more comfortable for something I'd be using all the time, and the additional built-in organization is worth it to me. But it all depends on how you use your bags - YMMV!

For everyone that has a DLBP: How are the straps? I am considering getting one as an EDC that I can throw my SE into along with all the stuff my kids need. But the straps are deterring me. I purchased and returned the packing cube BP because I hated the boxy straps. It looks like the DLBP straps are sewn on a little differently (at more of an angle?) For the price I wish it had more traditional BP straps :/

Thanks. I liked thed idea of the DLBP because I will use my SE as my purse & can just toss all the other stuff in. Plus it's really light weight & could be packed away in suitcase as extra bag on trips. I like the Luminary 12 as my EDC "purse", but, to small while I still have littles. The S19 would be great for travel, but, maybe to organized for my EDC. Also I am holding out for my dream color combo for my future S19. I don't want to empty pockets when it's not in use. Ahh decisions, decisions.

Sunglasses in a Ghost Whale sounds good, but there's no way a passport would fit in a Q-kit. (Well, not unless you cut the passport into strips first, which I don't recommend.) Maybe you're thinking of a regular organizer pouch instead? Q-kits are the three-dimensional ones with a vaguely triangular cross section. A passport fits in a small regular organizer pouch. From the dimensions on the product page you might think it would also fit in a mini organizer pouch, but keep in mind that those dimensions include the width of the seam that goes around the edge of the pouch.

Ah, I see - if the SE is your main purse and you just need the DLBP to catch the littles' stuff, that makes sense as a streamlined solution. Totally agree about finding the just-right answer - why have pockets that you won't use? This is the great thing about the TB portfolio - enough variety to fit all use cases!

Tom has designed the Passport Pouches, just for that purpose. They easily hold 2 or more passports and are available with or without RFID blocking lining fabric.

Being made of an exterior of 200d Halcyon ripstop and a lining of Aether, they are extremely light and very handy for travel.

I like the idea of the Passport Pouch. But have to admit that out of the various accessories I have purchased, it's the only item I have used very little. I find it easier to keep my passport, along with other travel essentials, directly in a small pocket of another bag or a jacket pocket. I'm sure, with the creative minds of this forum, I'll find out that I have been missing out on ideas for a different use or role for a Passport Pouch!

I use the Alphaviolet Side Effect as my Nintendo switch case, and I've put my Kindle Oasis in there as well.

I think my small Snake Charmer is living at work at the moment, so I'm subbing in a stuff sack with a big fluffy scarf and hat in it.

The Original Halcyon Side Effect is my EDC, and my wallet/phone/planner/sunglasses live in there.

The Grass 3DCOC is my in-flight amenity kit. I have an eye mask, lotion, lip balm, snacks, etc. in there.

Thanks! That's completely different from how I was packing it...gives me something to think about. I was putting the Kindle and tablet in the back pocket and everything else just kinda stacked up in the main area. I like how yours is utilizing all the pockets and it doesn't seem as difficult to get to everything.

Cześć, Petros.Kyrillos! The answer is both. :-) The small Freudian Slip fits in the top pocket inside the Daylight Backpack, and the medium Freudian Slip fits in the bottom pocket. So you can pick which size of Freudian Slip fits the things you want to carry in it, and get that one! Or if you need something bigger, some people use the Synapse 19 Freudian Slip in the main section of the Daylight Backpack.
