    Clear Quarter Packing Cube

I picked up one of these two-sided bad boys when I heard that they were going out of production. (Fear of missing out.) After it arrived, I ordered two more. This little thing makes me feel like a packing ninja. Two fit in the end section of an A45 like butter. On one side I've put solid toiletries. The other side left empty until I past security, then my qt. zip bag of liquids slips right in there. No need to pull things out to rearrange. In the other cube I've got snacks, and a folded jacket.
A45 owners - grab one of these guys before they're gone. Awesome little thing.

    Hi labrain,

The Clear Quarter Packing Cubes do, indeed, fit well in the end pockets of the A45, and also in those of the retired Night Flight Travel Duffel. I don’t find that I use them in the smaller A30 end pockets, where the fit is not as good, and they’re a bit tall, but you can probably make this work if you want to. I have some of these in Halcyon (including Solar!), but I did decide to pick up one of these in a solid color before they went away when I ordered my Pick-Up Truck. (At the time that I received my Aeronaut 45 from the first production batch, I was traveling with backup laptop hard drives, and two of these would fit perfectly into a side.)

I’m going to post some excellent pictures from dorayme’s thread in 2012 that show how she uses the Clear Quarter Packing Cube to store items in her Swift. Ravelry members will have seen many pictures like this, since she’s a moderator over on the Tom Bihn forum on Ravelry. just click on the arrow at the top right of the quoted excerpt if you want to read her (extensive) text discussion in the original thread.

    Here's the Knitting Kit:

and here it is all closed up from the side to show the thickness:

I do prefer smaller needles. I adore Rasta though. zomg, Malabrigo makes some nummy yarn! I haven't knit with Rasta, but I've pet it before. My hands didn't want to stop.
If you are using interchangeable needles or cable needles they would still work in the kit. You may not be able to fit as many in due to the needle thickness though. This is where a Palette would come in so handy. The varying slots would allow you to have a custom case for your phat needles, and my skinny needles would also have a secure TB home!

Thanks moriond. That was a fun read. I know the CQPC has been around for awhile, but it was a new discovery for me.
So versatile. I'm thinking of a ton of uses for it now. Maybe I need another color : )

        moriond, you're such an enabler!

I had one that I eventually traded away because I mostly use my A30 vs A45 and as you mentioned, the fit isn't as good. I use other packing strategies (looking at you A30 laundry cubes!)... but now that you've shown the photos from dorayme I'm thinking one might be really nice for my on-the-go beading, to go with the Deluxe Spiff in my Pop Tote...

I just love packing cubes in general. Such a small thing, but it's an absolute game changer once you start using them. Really wish TB still sold the Pilot ones, although I'm sure my old reliable eagle creek cubes will fit decently in there.

I would totally buy a double sided packing cube like this if it were all fabric.

I love the CQPC! I'm sad that it's going away - I got one in Viridian for old time's sake. Also have Solar, UV, NWS, and Iberian around here!

We have two CQPC that function as our first-aid kits - one for upstairs (Solar), one for downstairs (Iberian). (Somewhere on the forums I posted pictures a while back...) I attach scissors to the top loop of the CQPC with a long key strap, so that if I need to cut a bandage or tape they are handy and don't go wandering as scissors tend to do in our house. The clear sides are great for seeing at a glance if all the supplies are there or if someone's forgotten to put back the thermometer/Band-Aids/antibiotic spray.

ETA: Here's my old post with images of the FA Kit: CQPC as first-aid kit

I also use the CQPC for travel as labrain mentions - one side left open for 3-1-1 liquids. If it's a car trip, I put the rest of my toiletries on the other side of the cube. The CQPC sits nice and square on a bathroom counter, or it can hang from a towel bar.

Or, I toss the whole first-aid-kit into my bag, on a matching keystrap. Easy to locate quickly, if someone has an upset tummy or a small scratch.

The NWS CQPC is for electronics accessories. (for some reason I associate grey with electronics) Again, great for spotting at a glance if all chargers and cords have been packed.

I am glad I have a few of these little guys! Awesome accessories for sure!

Thursday I placed an order for a black Pick-Up Truck and a mesh Organizer Pouch. I had thought about the CQPC but wasn't sure how I'd use it but after reading the various posts and looking at pictures I really wanted one. Unfortunately it would be another $10 shipping charge (lol that would be three times in one week). Thought about it this weekend and decided CQPC would be perfect to corral some of my sewing/quilting notions. Luckily with Tom Bihn being closed Friday and over the weekend my order was Unfulfilled so I messaged this morning and ask if it would be possible to add an Island CQPC to my order. Received an email with a link to an invoice for just the Island CQPC with no shipping charge. Thanks so much to Kat and the Tom Bihn crew for making this happen. I'm very grateful and continue to be blown away by the great products and amazing customer service provided by Tom Bihn.

                  kjquilts,
The CQPC will actually also fit into your Pick-Up Truck. And it will fit into the end of the Mini Yeoman Duffel, too (for any people who ordered that), though it's a tighter fit than in the Night Flight Travel Duffel Side Pockets, but it will work, since I can put it into a Mini Yeoman Duffel Aether Packing Cube (these are the packing cubes I really miss -- they're wonderful and unique in their depth and the fact of their handle; I think that because so many people could use the Yeoman Duffels without packing cubes, there wasn't much attention paid to how great these were for general purpose uses).

Here are the Small Yeoman Duffel (Steel), Mini Yeoman Duffel (Navy), Alphaviolet (Pick-Up Truck), and Island (Pick-Up Truck). In front is a Super Mini Ghost Whale Organizer Pouch (Black Spacer Mesh with Northwest Sky trim) and, not from this order, but an old Solar Clear Quarter Packing Cube inside a Carbon Aether Mini Yeoman Duffel Packing Cube (now retired).

I show the opened up Mini Yeoman Duffel, standing on end so you can see the Solar CQPC stuffed into one side at the bottom of the bag

Here's the Solar CQPC (with wipes and Kleenex inside for size) next to a Mini YD Packing Cube -- the same one that was shown in the first picture.

Here, I've put that Solar CQPC on its side inside the Island Pick-Up Truck's center compartment. I could probably fit in two of these. The GWOP pouches with Island zippers are the Mini Size and A5 size at the right (both from an earlier order).

Just so that you can see this all works. I'll add other post links later (have to go off to a Zoom meeting).

I have two small aether cubes and one mini and you're absolutely right about how useful they are!

And your photo montage is super useful as usual
