The ID page lists its overall dimensions. What are the dimensions of the main compartment (not the front compartment with the organizer pockets --- the one just behind it with the zipper)?

In the meantime, I'd suggest that users of the ID post descriptions of what they can fit inside of the main compartment. I can fit a Size 4 Brain Cell, a jacket, a liter water bottle, a book or two, and some smaller items in that compartment, though I usually don't like to cram it completely full.Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

I just got my ID, and it's bigger than you think
Hi,
I had the same question before I ordered by ID a couple weeks ago. I found one review on GearDiary (I think), that said the main compartment was three inches deep. That worried me a bit, as I wanted to carry my Fuji s9100 camera with me, and its dimensions are approximately 5x4x3.5 inches. (It's a bit bulkier with the RoadWired RAPS I keep it in.) So the first thing I did the day my ID was arrived was see if my Fuji would fit. And I'm happy to say it did, comfortably! Which means that the main compartment has a good bit of "give," even if it technically measures at three inches or so. Now if I put in a Brain Cell to carry my laptop, I wouldn't be able to carry the Fuji as well, but I doubt I'd ever want to do that.
I haven't tried stuffing the ID full yet, so I can't say exactly everything I might be able to carry in it. I'll post back when I have.
Hope this helps someone.

What I can fit in my ID messenger bag?
Hello again,
Here is a photo that shows better than I can describe what I just put in my ID bag.
The yellow item is bulkier than it looks in the photo. It is my Fuji s9100 wrapped in a RoadWired RAPS; it measures about 4x5x3.5 inches or so. The gray item in front is a collection of three lens filters, also protected in a RAPS. There was plenty of room left over to pack several more items; by no means did I stuff it full.
Other items include the big red travel wallet; photo wallet; mini wallet, three books; a Moleskine notebook to which I added a Tom Bihn sticker, and a Cahier; a brown bag with pens and highlighters; a red "tech" bag with USB flash drives and a memory card reader; another red bag with spare batteries and memory cards for my camera; a penlight; a brush; tissues; hand sanitizer; my Altoids (can't leave home without those); my Nano; a purple Organizer bag with Firewire connector, earphones, and a wall charger for the Nano; sunglasses; reading glasses which I never use; and a case with my driving glasses (which since LASIK surgery I never use either, but I can't seem to let go of them); a water bottle; and a Macworld. Oops, I forgot my keys. And my cell phone, both of which were in there, too.
And as I said, the ID had room to spare.
I hope this helps those people looking at bags and trying to decide which one to get. I know it would have been great for me when I was constantly changing my mind about the ID vs. the Ego vs. the Imago.
