pouch for carrying liquids onboard an airplane?

hi folks,

if you've travelled recently, i'm sure you're aware of the restrictions on liquids being brought onboard. we're allowed to carry no larger than 3oz (100ml) containers, where all of the containers fit in a 1 litre clear plastic bag for inspection.

i was thinking that it would be very cool to have a 1 litre clear bag, made out of the same material used for the clear organizer pouches. the difference would be that this bag would be clear on both sides (if that is indeed a requirement for carrying liquids through security). also, rather than being flat, these pouches would be 3 dimensional. i'm not sure if i'm describing this correctly. what i mean to say is that they will be shaped more like a packing cube than an organizer pouch.

what do you think? can this be done? is there a market for this? i would definitely get one if this could be made available.

My requirement for those carry on liquids is a bag that seals. I choose my 2 & 3 oz containers carefully, but every once in a while one leaks. Hence the requirement for a bag that seals. That's why I've switched from a zip locking bag to watchfuleyedesigns' Aloksak.

Unfortunately, the Clear Quarter Packing Cube won't work for this purpose:

TSA: Permitted and Prohibited Items

1. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.

2. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.

3. Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

I guess I misread and got all excited. But I like Just's idea of placing the 1 quart plastic bag inside the quarter packing cube.

I'm going to try carrying my liquids in the Clear Quarter Packing Cube (ordered and on the way - yippy!) the next time I travel and see if I get hassled. I'll keep a clear plastic bag with me also, just in case. What can I say? I was never good at following rules, always wanting to shape them to suit my needs.

I'll let you know how it works out.

I've used a clear zipper bag of the approximate dimensions of a quart ziplock without incident.

It was cheapo and busted, though...I'll need to find another. Unless Tom has so much clear plastic and free time that he wants to make us all TSA bags.

Perhaps I have been lucky, but the 1 qt. freezer Ziploc bags have always held up very well for me when I travel. I also use 1 oz. travel size bottles that I bought at REI and have been using them for many years (15-20) without incident.
