    Brain Bag question

    Hello,

I'm considering the purchase of a Brain bag and I have a couple questions about the two main compartments:

    1) How far do the compartments unzip - do the zippers go all the way to the bottom of the pack?

    2) Does anyone know the dimensions of the two main compartments? I woudl like to fit this in one of them:

    It is 11" x 14" x 5" - will it fit?

    3) If i got a Zephyr and a Brain Bag, could I use the same Brain Cell? Is there a way to outfit the Brain Cell with both vertical and horizontal clips?

    Thanks very much

Most horizontal Brain Cells will fit in both bags

I am still waiting for my first Brain Bag, but I plan to use it with a horizontal brain cell that I already have from a Super Ego. Darcy confirms that most horizontal brain cells will comfortably fit in the Brain Bag in this thread:

My Brain Cell isn't due to arrive for a while (I ordered it in Olive, an out-of-stock color), so unfortunately I can't answer your other questions. Sorry!
Aeronaut (Original in Hunter Green), Aeronaut 30 (Forest), Smart Alec (Hunter Green), Pilot (Forest), Co-Pilot (Coyote), Synapse 25 (Black Dyneema), Two Large Shop Bags (Iberian and Steel), Passport Pouch (Iberian), Two Travel Trays (Solar stays in the Aeronaut, Iberian stays home), more than a dozen accessories.

        SCOR,

I' m no expert, but I do have a Brain bag. It's tough to measure the inside of the two main compartments, but what I came up with is 18" x 13" x 4". It's soft-sided, though, so that should expand a bit. I'd say your bag would probably fit, but it would be tight.

And just as an aside, I've had my Brain Bag for a few months now, and it's the best backpack I've ever owned by far.

Both of the main compartment zippers zip down to about halfway of the length of the bag.

If it was 11 x 14 x 4" it would fit. But that 5" just pushes it almost too far. It might fit because it's a soft bag, but I can't guarantee it.

What size of Brain Cell do you need? No Vertical Brain Cells will fit in the Zephyr, but some sizes of Horizontal Brain Cell (4, 4X, 5, 6, 7)will fit in both the Brain Bag and the Zephyr.

The Brain Bag zippers open down to the seam visible on picture c on the Brain Bag page.

The seam is a little above the lower strap.

It opens really wide, I would say that your photo bag could fit in the back compartment but it is going to be snug lengthwise which would be good as it will keep your camera pack secure but it maybe the only thing you can put in the compartment apart from some small items left on the six inches clearance above or below (socks or any cloth item that could cushion the bottom of the bag even more)

            I would suggest an Aeronaute instead since it can convert to a backpack and has more room 22" x 14" x 9" / 555 x 355 x 230mm in one big compartment versus 18" x 14" x 9" / 450 x 350 x 230mm in two sizable compartments.

I have both the Brain Bag and the Aeronaute and they virtually feel the same when the Aeronaute is carried backpack style.

If you want to carry the bag as a backpack all of the time, I wouldn't recommend the Aeronaut. The Aeronaut is designed to be able to be used as a backpack some of the time but is mostly itended as a shoulder bag or carried by its handles.

Thanks so much to all that responded. I appreciate the help. I just purchased a Zephyr and a 4x Brain Cell, so it sounds like the 4x Brain Cell will also fit in the Brain Bag.

As for my camera block, I may just have to give it a go.

                thanks again.
