How big is the stuff sack?

It occurs to me that, with the addition of the Sapphire/White Dyneema Clear Bottom Yarn Stuff Sack and the fact that the Stuff Sacks are being sold separately, TB + crew might be wanting to sell these to a larger audience than just knitters.

That said, am I the only one who has no concept of how large or small these things are? I really can't tell from the pictures, and I am not familiar with the whole yarn/knitting thing enough to be able to guess from the size of a.. ball? of yarn.. see, I have no idea!

I saw a prototype version of the Swift with Stuff Sack, and assuming that the design didn't change, the height of the Stuff Sack is about 8" or a little under. It basically sits just slightly below the low point at the side of the Swift, or of the Lux (mouse over view "a"), which you have. That way it can easily clip onto the D-ring that's just below that cross-over point at the side of the bag, and sit on the bottom without extending above the low point at the sides.

The Stuff Sack easily accommodates 500 ml water bottles, as described in this post. The 750 ml bottles are a bit tall for it, though I think the squat and fat versions of some 1 liter bottles could fit in and have their tops extend past the pulled draw string.

But what about the radius of the stuff sack? Is it then about the radius of one of those wide-mouth Nalgene bottles? Or is it bigger than that... I can't quite tell from the pics, again... that does look like a lot of yarn to my eyes.

OK, I went home and measured with a ruler. The prototype that I have is 8.5" high and 6.5" in diameter. You can easily fit in four 500 ml bottles of water and pull the draw cord close enough to cover the plastic caps of each bottle, but not close the stuff sack. (Sorry, I don't have a digital camera).

It was my understanding that they were going to redesign the LUX based on some of the mods to the Swift. Actually, I prefer the pure Ballistic nylon version of the Swift, too, because the bag does a better job of staying upright when it's placed on the floor.

Hmm.. would be interesting if they did mod the LUX! Maybe add in an organizer panel a la the Cafe Bags...

If there was one object that we used, putting it next to each bag/accessory to give you an overall sense of the size of the bag, what should it be? A cd? A bottle of water? A can of soda? Something universal.

Just a good old ruler, I'd think... unless that lacks panache. Failing that a 500mL water bottle is pretty universal.

That's a good question for all the bags Darcy. It would be great if there was a few common objects that you used for all the product pictures. Maybe we should start a new thread on the topic. But I think you already hit on a few good ones. Off the top of my head ... soda can, CD, 8x11 (and or 11x17) pad of paper, magazine, a SLR camera with 35mm lens, nalgene bottles of various sizes, iPod, cell phone, Nintendo DS.

I'd go with a US dollar bill. For larger bags, a US dollar bill and a Harry Potter hardcover. (Hey, everyone has one.)

CD sounds like a sure bet. Soda cans and paper may vary in size depending on the locale. Even Harry Potter in HC may vary in size depending on language I'm not aware of CDs/DVDs/VCDs having any other sizes.

I thought that too, but it's not really like they have time to take that many pictures such that the sense of depth is really a factor.

There's a bag company - Crumpler I think - that uses 6 packs as a measure of capacity. May be not too family friendly but pretty useful ;>)

I think a CD case and a bottle of water are two very common and easily referenced items, as long as you reference the size of the water bottle (500 ml or whatever). Even in the U.S., water is often sold in metric units.

I think adding pictures of the bags that give a good impression of the overall size would be a *great* improvement to the site. I often don't get a feel for the size of a bag until I search for outside reviews with photos of the bags in use.
