The 1995 LGD (from the TOM BIHN vault)

These pictures show a bag named the LGD that Tom designed and sewed himself in 1995 at his one-man shop in Santa Cruz. A longtime TOM BIHN customer recently sent it back to us for repair (one of the zippers was worn out: if you wash your bag in a washing machine for years, that's what will happen!) and we snapped these pictures of it.

Tom still has the pattern for the LGD, and is thinking of updating the design and re-releasing it. What do you think?

Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

    What does LGD stand for?

I asked Tom: he said it shall forever remain a mystery.

Looks pretty cool to me, and I'm all for more bags. Any other info (size, description, more pictures, etc) would be helpful, I think.

Awesome to see previous bags, but this somewhat resembles the Western Flyer. Except that it's a little dated-looking.

It's a small bag: similar to the size of three Snake Charmers or a Medium Cafe.

              Great colors, though.

I notice the label says "Black Bag"?

I like it but then I seem to like all bags.....even the ones I don't really like.

There was a period where Tom made his bags under his own brand name of 'Black Bag' instead of under his own name.

                      I think

it's great that you have a lot of different bags, and I'm sure you know what you're doing, but...

isn't there a limit to the number of designs you can reasonably support? Maybe you already have a number in mind, but all I hear is about more and more options (except when it comes to number of color choices available at a given time). Seems to me that at some point, you're just competing with yourself.

PS. I see the beginnings of the look in the cafe bags, with the flap and buckle slightly off center. I like that look.

I do not like this better than the Imago, though, so I say leave it in the past.

I do not like it better than the medium cafe bag, either.

I actually like the LBG vs the Imago and Cafe bags, as the LBG has the zippered pockets on the front, which can be accessed without lifting a flap. I really like that aspect of it. I think a redesign of the LBG will be pretty sweet. Can't wait for it. Will we be able to make suggestions for it?

I really like it. The outside pockets are a plus for me. I like it far better than the cafe bags.

Hmm, this might work if it was really tiny, like Small or probably better Mini Cafe Bag size... otherwise wildgeese might be right about the competing-against-self thing.

Three Snake Charmers? I haven't one myself, but my mental image of that was quite huge!
