Daylight Backpack — a delighted surprise

The Daylight Backpack is indeed a Delight!

The last two trips, I used it first, as a Packing Cube Backpack and a Backpack at the destination.

This past few months, it has been an invaluable helper holding Democracy helping items, while the LSB was being the EDC.

While the Halcyon fabric is the most versatile weather and portability wise, I think that the addition of EDC Light Ballistic fabric is welcomed.

I have a feeling I said that in another post, I think it will make a great thematic gift backpack.

I have been eyeing a DLBP for a while and given the size of my laptop (a big Lenovo ThinkPad ), I decided I needed an S25. I really like the sleekness of the DLBP though. My Lenovo is a little over 15" long and it LOOKS like the DLBP would be tall enough. Any thoughts on this??

Also, where do you all put a water bottle?

Okay I think this thread is seriously missing some visuals.

Photos include work laptop and external USB monitor in case. Then I tucked those into an even bigger case which I would never do and packed the whole thing. Yard stick for measurement. This thing would hold the largest toughbook unless you have like a 17” monitor on your laptop.

I’ve actually flown laptop, external monitor, laptop dock, ipad all in my DLBP. Cables in the front pocket a bit heftier than I prefer on my back but doable.

Regular work laptop only in neoprene sleeve and 3 40oz Hydroflasks.





They’re empty and I’m not crazy enough to carry 120oz of water on my back but I wanted to provide some perspective. This thing holds a lot, is low profile and incredibly lightweight.

My work EDC is usually laptop, notebook and ipad in a PCSB with cables and things, and a water bottle carabinered to a o-ring. All my o-rings have key rings on them because it’s easier for me.

Here is a question for everyone - with no padding etc on the back, doesn't it get hot to carry? Of course everyone is different, but to me the only thing holding me back for ordering is worrying about how hot it will be on my back.

Mine are all halcyon so I can’t speak for ballistic but I’ve never had a problem with heat, no more so than anything else. I’ve worn one walking around Disneyland on a 105 degree day wishing I could peel off my own skin but the bag was fine. :-)

Thank you SO much for the pictures!! That helped me make up my mind and I'll be purchasing one as well, rather than a Synapse. I just could never figure out how it tapered at the top and if that would be problem for me. It looks like it won't and I'll be good to go!

I think I’m going to order the DLBP tomorrow but does anyone think this EDC is too much for the bag?? Should I go with an S25? I really like the low profile of the DLBP.

I like that light blue zippered mesh binder pouch. Do you know where I could find one like it?

Personally for my neck and shoulders it would be the weight of the laptop that would push me towards the S25 with a frame and padded hip belt, but I can't speak to how it would fit volume-wise since I don't have a DLBP yet (it has never been made in a colour I like but I hold out hope).

I'm pretty sure I got it at a back to school sale at WalMart or Target a couple of years ago for about $3. I see them every year at back to school time though. They're usually in the back to school aisle in a box of about 50 or so...multiple colors to choose from.

Thank you for your advice about the pack. I worry about the weight a little bit too. Right now, I carry a large leather Vera Bradley tote and it is SO heavy with my computer in it. I'm convinced I'm destroying my shoulder.

Consider me a late convert... I never was interested in this pack because of the thin straps and narrow front-to-back dimension... i couldn't really figure out why I'd use it....

I received one in trade a bit ago and finally tried it out last week and this week for a work EDC, figuring I'd destash it if it didn't work out.
Due to the horrible air quality in the Bay region right now (the Camp Fire that hurt the poor folks up further north), we're working from home a lot. So I brought my work laptop (in a neoprene sleeve) and a stack of paper files back & forth home several times.
I don't think I'd use it as my work laptop *travel* bag, but as an EDC work bag, it worked out pretty well. I had a Q-kit of randomness and a TC inside there too and it all fit, felt slim on my back, and the straps didn't bother me at all.

I was pleasantly surprised & impressed, so now it's a keeper and my pile of cool and useful TB bags is not getting any smaller....
...but I am still waiting for the One Pack (for short torso people) to Rule Them All!


EDIT: I was pleasantly surprised upon using a Daylight Briefcase earlier this year too and now I have two of them and they're some of my favorite bags... just goes to show, you never know until you try them out...and I'm happy that I'm in the $10 shipping zone for trying out and returning (though very few seem to get returned...hmmmmm)

I can argue both ways on this one:
DLBP ultralite but not padded
S25 Heavier bag but padded and compartmentalized

Personally I don’t mind the heavier DLBP I think the wider straps are fine. I have back issues and try to go as light as humanly possible always.

Lots of people prefer the S25 though and it’s a pretty great bag. Tough choice!

I took my DLBP yesterday on a trip by train, about three hours on each leg of the journey (had a job interview). I'm always surprised how much I can fit into it...

Yesterday it was:

• car keys
• wallet (not a minimalist wallet)
• phone
• iPad in a cover
• plug and cords
• earphones
• umbrella
• lunch box with leftover cake plus one apple
• big bottle of water (one litre)
• notebook and pen (+ papers)
• a book
• a non creasing suit jacket (I wore a cardigan on the train and switched for the interview)
• tissues, lip balm and various other small stuff

The bag wasn't stuffed to the seams, everything was accessible and it still looked quite slim on my back.
