New Braincell for the new macbook pros?

    All,
How long will it take to get a braincell made for the new macbook pros? I am most likely buying one very quickly and would like to keep it protected the whole time.

It's very likely that the new 15" MacBook Pro will fit in the the same 4X Brain Cell that the "old" MacBook Pro fits in. We will let you know for sure tomorrow. As for the new 13" MacBook - it will definitely fit in the same Size 6 Brain Cell that the previous version did.

Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

Current carry: testing new potential materials in the form of Original Large Shop Bags.

        Okay! Here is the latest:

The new 15.4" MacBook Pro will not fit in our Size 4X (designed for the previous model 15" MBP.)

Tom is designing a new size of Vertical and Horizontal Brain Cell for the new 15.4" MBP - that size is the 4Z and it is available for pre-order now and ships by late November.

The Size 4Z Horizontal Brain Cell will clip securely inside of our Empire Builder and Western Flyer briefcases and Super Ego messenger bag. The Vertical version will clip securely inside of our Brain Bag and Smart Alec backpackS.

Pictures/links to all bags that fit the NEW 15" MacBook Pro can be found here.

In addition, Tom is designing a new size of laptop insert for our Checkpoint Flyer "checkpoint friendly" briefcase specifically for the new 15.4" MBP - this is also now available for pre-order and ships by late November.

Will the new Brain Cell fit inside the Zephyr?

I will likely get a new MBP from apple because I've had 5 repairs over a 3 month time-span on my old MBP, and I'm hoping I won't have to repurchase all my bags...

My Zephyr/Brain Cell are barely used as it is, because I only got them ~3 months ago

I also have a Buzz. Will the new MBP fit into that? Please say yes... as a college student, I rarely go a day without using the Buzz...

Ugh. I hear you. I got my Brain Cell not very long ago and it's still in perfect condition... but I'm going to get one of the new MBP probably before the year is out.

Do the new MBP completely just not fit at all? Or do they kinda sorta fit, but not great (not up to Tom Binh standards but maybe good enough for students-who-really-can't-afford-another-Brain-Cell standards?)

(oh and if you're wondering about the contradiction between getting a new MBP but not affording a Brain Cell, the MBP has been budgeted into savings for the last 3 years...)

It *should* fit in the Buzz....but we need someone with one of the new 15" MacBook Pros to confirm that.

Unfortunately, the 4Z Brain Cell definitely won't fit in the Zephyr. The new 15" MBP with a simple, thin padded sleeve *would* fit in the Zephyr, though - Tom is designing a new kind of slim sleeve for the 4Z, but it probably won't be available until February/March/April 2009.

The new MBP just doesn't fit at all. We wish it did: we want you to buy a new bag because you want to, not because you have to because Apple forgot to consult with us before they changed the size of the MBP.

Hi Darcy. I have both a Zephyr and an Ego, both with 4X Horizontal Brain Cells, for my 2-year old MacBook Pro 15". Last night I picked up the new, redesigned, MacBook Pro 15". I find that it fits in the 4X Brain Cell just fine.

Just wondering what I might be missing here regarding the fit...

                  Jeff

Hmm, really? We made an exact model of the new 15" MBP and it bows out the sides of the 4X Brain Cell - it's also really hard to pull it in and out of the Brain Cell. You don't have either of those problems?

No, actually I find it slides in and out of the Brain Cell without any problems at all, Darcy. I honestly don't see much difference at all between the fit of the original MBP and the just-released model. Before y'all go to all the engineering effort to tee up a new model, you might want to get your hands on one of the new laptops and see what you think.

In any case, thanks for all that you guys do. Love your bags!

You don't happen to live in or near Seattle, do you? We'll have to track down a new 15" MBP and try it out: if we have the same experience that you do fitting it in the 4X, then we'll cancel the 4Z and make a lot of folks who already have the 4X quite happy!

Alas, I'm in Virginia, Darcy. Wish I was closer - would love to see y'alls place!

I have one of the old Monolith 4X vertical cases and the new Macbook Pro. I find that the sides fit fine, but vertically it is a little longer than the old MBP so there is not as much cushion on the top and bottom. I will try to take some pictures later tonight if anyone is interested.
