Synik 30...Impressed!

Just got the Synik 30 to haul a travel tripod, Sony camera, two lenses, three flashes, batteries, accessories, MacBook, ad iPad. I have tried way too many camera bags and backpacks and decided to use the remaining dollars in my gear budget to end this search. My boss will probably be glad too. (:

I personally own and have extensive travel with the Synapse 25, and will continue to use it.

Props to the TB crew for the incremental design improvements to the straps, back panel, laptop compartment, handle, frame sheet, and clam shell opening. I’m excited to have this bag to haul all my camera gear and look forward to the challenge of trying to lay things out for efficient access.

Looks like TB has another winner in this backpack too!

Show us how you organize the bag when you’ve laid everything out. I plan on using my Synik 22 as a camera bag, but haven’t had the chance to go anywhere to test it out.

I will! I’m constantly fiddling with camera bags but wam excited to give this one a whirl.

I gave this a few days thought then grabbed our daughters hot glue gun and some cardboard to make DIY dividers. I’m not a big fan of the thick velcrow style. This takes up minimal space and keeps everything from just balling up on the bottom.

Although it has held up just fine, I ordered something similar for $52 that is about the same size and offers flexible options - like being able to adjust for a drone shoot.

A few different setups...one with two speed lights + controller and another with a backup point and shoot plus 360 camera.

So far this looks to be superior to the cardboard and worth the $52. Fit is perfect in the Synik or Synapse 25.

Now that the interior of my Synik “camera” setup is working well I’m getting greedy. Trying to figure out, despite the blasphemy of modifying this incredible bag, if anyone has figured out how to add side straps for a tripod. Looked at this bag for hours and am drawing a blank.

I would love a couple sets of strap loops so they could be added and removed just like the waste band...but full blown surgery isn’t an option.

Anyone done this with a Synik or Synapse?

If you were talking about the Guide’s Edition Synik 30 (or Synapse 25), you could use the accessory strap points to connect a tripod to the front of the bag using a lash strap or ice axe strap, and everything you configured inside the bag would also work. Here’s a picture from the 2020 Guide’s Edition Pre-Order Blog post :

What can I strap to the bag / carry on the outside of the Guide’s Edition?

To the top accessory strap holder (with the optional Ice Axe Strap) and through the ice axe loop below, you could secure an ice axe or tripod.

To the bottom two accessory strap holders and with the optional lash straps, you could secure foldable hiking poles, an ultralight folding chair, icy gaiters or a wet raincoat, foam roller or smelly workout clothes to the bottom of the pack.

Not to make your bag feel unloved, but couldn’t you swap it for a similar Synik model with the Guide’s Edition version?

I’d like to do the same. Just modify the Synik for occasional use with hiking poles. I prefer the look of the original.

It is certainly one of the advantages of the Guide’s Edition versions to have some external accessory straps, and I can well appreciate the interest in having some attachments for items like tripods. But personally, and perhaps I might well be in a minority, the Guide’s Edition styling and particular coyote colour is just not my taste. I’m not sure though that I would want the clean look of my other TB bags to be spoilt by attachment straps just for occasional use... Some kind of discrete mounting point which could allow external optional straps/accessories could be an interesting and useful feature in future TB bag designs?
