Hi all---new to TB and the forums. I started out looking for a new backpack and ended up ordering a bunch of stuff in addition to a Synik 30. For orders of several pre-order items, does it sometimes happen that one item is ready much earlier than others? For example, if my backpack is ready but Side Kick is not, would I have to wait? Or would I even know when some of the items are ready? TIA,

    Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to the Forums!

What colour Synik did you pic?

      The Pre-Order FAQ is here

To the best of my understanding, all the pre-order items you have would ship at once, unless you have an order confirmation that has items that say 'ships late April' and others that say 'ships mid-May' in which case you'd probably have the option to ship the April ones once they're ready and then ship the May ones when they are ready, but that would be two shipping charges.

There is a possibility that you could get something early if your order was randomly selected to receive a Pre Production Batch bag (more info in the FAQ) but I don't know if that applies if you have multiple things in your order.

This is also the biggest Pre-Order that TB has apparently done, so maybe things may pan out differently. We can ask Darcy to chime in when she has a moment - see if anything has changed.

Thanks for your reply! I guess I was thinking about a statement in the email that TB sent announcing the pre-order jamboree: Our estimated shipping date is late April, though the majority of orders will ship much sooner than that. I had assumed that they wouldn't be making the orders one-by-one (ie, "now let's make all that stuff that Chris ordered...") but instead that they would make a bunch of each bag type at a time. But I really have no idea, and in the end I'll get stuff when I get it. So no biggie, but I'll just have to keep toting around my beat up old backpack until my Synik 30 in deep blue/coyote arrives. Thanks again,

        Chris

          Hi Chris,

The general experience over the years has been that they give conservative estimates on preorders, because they would rather have some leeway for error. That being said, there have been the uncertainties of CoVid-19 imposed restrictions (hopefully, no new or unknown stoppers) and the fact that they’ve set up this large preorder so that lots of different products are all being worked on at the same time. Customer support is terrific, so you should feel free to get in touch with them if you need to get specific items earlier, or just want an update overview.

          And welcome to the forums!

Haha, I did the same thing! Had already placed my order but panicked upon seeing what AHesting said above - re: FOMO on the Seapine Pickup Truck! (I went with a Seapine Monster. Will call it Seymour. Or is it Sigmund?) I just love the recycled 630 fabric!!

Plus I still regret not getting a Medium Yeoman. YOPO (instead of YOLO) = Yes Of course Pre-Order

As G42 said: DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE TEMPTED!!

Was not going to order one because I already have Aubergine, Black and Burnt Orange but when you said they were sold out my first thought was I should have ordered the deep blue when I was looking at them earlier today so when it was still available of course I had to order one.

Earlier I pre-ordered my first Side Kick (black halcyon and island) and a Tidal Everyday Cubelet. Actually first I mistakenly pre-ordered an Aubergine SK and the Tidal EC but then made correct pre-order and Cody was nice enough to cancel my first pre-order.

Good question. We actually cut and started production on some of the bags offered for pre-order about two weeks ago with the goal of getting a head-start on production. That head start will, we think, in most cases allow us to shuffle things so that one order with multiple items can ship complete sooner rather than later. In other words: things would line up so that you wouldn't have to wait more than a few days for that Side Kick to be ready if your Synik is ready.
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

In fact, I couldn’t sleep last night thinking about this preorder since I was stressed out about ordering my beloved 200d halcyon Side Effects. I think I would have been all right not getting anything else on my list, but I’ve been waiting years for those SEs. So to the entire TB team, thank you so much for making today such a positive ordering experience.

Thank you (and everyone else who shared) this feedback. From our vantage point, and based on what folks have been telling us, this pre-order/debut/drop-whatever-the-current-term-is worked better for everyone. Here at TB, it also felt really good.

We're going to challenge ourselves to handle releases in this way whenever we can. There may be some exceptions: for example, there's a design of Tom's that recycles a certain material.... but we thought of recycling that material a bit late in the game and only have a small-ish quantity of it! But we still want to share what we've come up with with all of you. So, that's an example of an item that could sell out very quick and that we wouldn't be able to make more of for a while. We'd also still like to debut something on the Monday after Thanksgiving, and the timeline isn't long enough for that to be a pre-order. I know I am not the only one who enjoys a little holiday shopping and likes to buy from my favorite small or unique businesses on that day.

Mostly, though, this pre-order served as an example of how we'd like things to work in the future.

Kudos to the TB team for taking the forum members' comments to heart, and coming up with a great win/win solution!

I couldn’t decide between the paragon aubergine guides edition and the paragon taiga, so I ordered both, something I rarely do. Usually I just try one at a time, but I was afraid neither would be available later on. I also ordered a uv side effect and a monster truck in aubergine. Now is the time I try my best not to continually add on accessories whilst waiting ever so patiently.

And even my EC gets used mostly as a bag on its own. But I don’t really need another EC or PCSB either...
I use my SE as a larger all fabric 3doc. It replaced my snake charmer as it has more useful (for me) attachment points.

I love the pre-order setup, it is much more relaxed than the "hope my favorite items don't sell out, check the clock, get the cc ready, pounding heart" events.

I hope the PCSB new fabric in deep blue is coming back for at least, another time.

I would love for Acuity to become a regular color, replacing Island which I never warmed up to, despite the fact that I love blues.

I also really enjoyed the pre order experience. I was able to order while on a quick bathroom break at work lol my order went through at 10:01ET so I would call that a success. My biggest concern was that the website would be slow but no problems at all!

I love that the extended pre-order period is so much less stressful. The only potential negative side effect (no pun intended) is my self control has been seriously challenged as the temptation factor of add-ons is quite intense given the longer contemplation period. For example, I placed an order for a black/solaris Paragon, but I keep eyeing the Taiga one. That is a personal issue though, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make choices in a more leisurely fashion. Must hold the line...

I believe pre-orders were available before many joined the forum, but, it had to be put on hold due to, I think, software limitations.

I am extremely grateful to The Crew, for bringing back the pre-orders setup. This way, I can plan between wants (all the bags, in my favorite colors) and needs (I have been a Tom Bihn Inc customer since 2006, so I have quite a collection, already, but the most versatile accessories can always find a place)

Darcy, will more colors of the Zippered Shop Bags be produced in 2021 as well?

With the pandemic, everything used outdoors has zippers, well except masks and hats.
