The collection grows... And I keep finding uses for all those pouches and accessories... I still think the total cost of everything I have bought from TB is less than 2 Tumis with wheels, and carry a lot more. Now, wheels have their place but I have found it is a lot easier to carry my things and help my kids with theirs if I am not wheeling my own bag. I just sit that WF on top of my wife's giganto suitcase and away we go... Looking forward to the Aeronaut when it comes........ Got it in black so it would look a little smaller when I carry it on, and I do like a good Black/Steel combo, especially when its the dyneema steel....

guys, there is hope! I used to be like that and now, I wouldn't even know what to do with one of those suitcases. I've gone to Europe for a month with my Aeronaut and actually didn't wear everything I brought...

              Hi,

I have a question for Aeronaut owners, and I do not mean to knock the information on the TB web site, but have you taken a tape measure to your bag?

One of the review blogs had comments from a reader that made it sound smaller than the stated 22x14x9, and I wondered what your bags measure.

I already have a 22x14x9 soft bag and it's too big, so that's why I am very interested in the Tri-Star, even though its 19x13x8 would be lovelier (for me .. I am so hard to please, eh) at a smidgen bigger, I don't know, maybe 20x13(or14)x8 (definitely not 9, I do know that).

I've even considered adding an Aeronaut to my pre-order for the Tri-Star, get them both and compare in person.

              Thanks much!

I bought one of those bags (the non TB you mention) the cost was close to the price of all the TB bags I own.
It is a garment bag one of its major components stopped functioning on the first trip. The paint on another essential component got worn down, note that this bag has only been used for 10 trips or less. It is very heavy, impossible to carry, which means it needs to be checked and my nice clothes risk being lost and it doesn't do the job it is supposed to do.
                Who needs the annoyance?

For me it is Tom Bihn bags all the time, ever since I bought my first bag and got my first email from Darcy.
Wow! A human being who really answers from a company!

To be fair, I have had a dual sided carryon from them for many years and it has lasted very well, it just isn't that easy to carry when it is full and the compartments are less than optimized and so it needs to be expanded and when it is expanded it needs to be checked. And it is heavy. I have a different garment bag that has had a shoulder strap attachment fall off. I still use it but I am starting to think that garment bags are completely useless. Unless you are talking a big stiff hard-sided bag with dedicated sleeves, which I certainly don't have, my stuff gets wrinkled anyway. Dry cleaners plastic around the clothes inside a good tight-fitting insert seems to do the best job, no matter what bag they are placed in. I've been using an insert from a large LL Bean suitcase I bought years ago (that has held up very nicely). I'm probably going to have to bring a lightweight suit or blazer and slacks in July, so I will see what will fit in the Aeronaut. I am also thinking that a full compartment of the Western Flyer might do the trick, since it is a little wider than the main compartment of the Aeronaut (I think), which might fit my clothes better (size 44 jacket), and isn't so deep that there would be a lot of shifting. I will have to try that, since I am planning on using the Aeronaut as my main carryon and Western Flyer as my "briefcase". Of course, the simplest thing is always to wear the jacket....

Mine is partially filled with travel stuff and taking a very quick measurement I hit 21x13x9. I'd say if I stuffed it, or had someone hold it for me so I could take an accurate measurement, it would easily hit the 22x14x9. As it is now partially full it's sagging and I can't hold it firmly and measure at the same time. I think it's safe to say the readings on the website are accurate based on what I'm seeing. Now I need to get my Aeronaut back on the top shelf.

It's up to you but if you have a bag that size I'm not sure what getting another bag that size would do for you, unless your current bag is falling apart or something. You say that size is to big but (without knowing what you have) with the Aeronaut you can just fill the middle and let the sides be empty and it won't really bulge that much. I guess I'd need to know what about that size makes you think it's too big before I could offer advice.

Thank you, pretzelb, for the measuring! Yes, I already have a 22x14x9 bag and really want a couple inches off the 22 and 1" off the 9.

I know I want a smaller size to 1) keep me from overpacking, and 2) meet overseas carry-on restrictions.

I will stay with my Tri-Star pre-order and see how it goes with that for a trip.

                        Thanks again!

these measurements help but I still would like to know the measureemtns of each compartment in the Tristar.

                            Hi bluedenim,

Perhaps an e-mail direct using the Contact page?

Another thought, take a look at the measurements for the Tri-Star packing cubes. I bet they are only a smidgen less than the compartments themselves. The Western Flyer ones work that way.

                            Cheers.
