    The new Ristretto

Tom's second shot on the Ristretto is the upgrade for which you've all been waiting. The new Ristretto has the same basic form-factor as the first version - it's still a vertical way to carry a MacBook Air, 13" MacBook/Pro or similar sized computer.

    Changes include:
Main compartment is 3/8" (10mm) is thicker
Front pouch now has 1" (25mm) of depth
Organizer pockets are now in the front pouch instead of in the main compartment
Flap is now edged with contrasting black trim

Instead of adjustable toothed slides to attach the shoulder strap, the <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0223">Ristretto</a> now features the same steel eyelets as the <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/700/TB0730">Empire Builder</a> and <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/500/TB0906">Aeronaut</a> which allows the use of a wider variety of shoulder straps and allows the strap to pivot. A version of our Standard Shoulder Strap with metal d-rings is included with the Ristretto. For an additional $10, one can upgrade to the <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/ACC/TB0506">TerraGrip</a>; for $15, the <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/ACC/TB0520">Q-AM</a> (yes, with d-rings); and for $20, the <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/ACC/TB0505">Absolute</a>.

More pictures and information coming soon. The new Ristretto should be in-stock by July 8th. The price of the Ristretto will be raised on July 9th.

Looks good. Nice change from the toothed slides, too.

It's unlikely these same changes will be made to the Cafe Bags.

I just added more new pictures to the <a href="http://www.tombihn.com/page/001/PROD/300/TB0223">Ristretto</a> page.

You'll be charged what you were charged at the time you ordered - so $90 for the Ristretto itself. We won't be changing the price until July 9th or after.

Pre-orders will likely ship much sooner. I'm hoping for this week or early next week.

Thanks for the extra pictures - it helps me understand some of the changes better. My Buzz bag is working well for me (though I would definitely be tempted if I didn't have it).

However, it would be cool if the Cafe Bag got the steel eyelets. I could easily see having one as a day bag when traveling if I could easily move an absolute shoulder strap from luggage to it (especially if I could order the Cafe Bag without any strap for less since I already have it).

As an owner of one of the original Ristrettos (even pre-ordered it!), I like the idea of the changes in the new one, especially moving the pockets from the main compartment to the front compartment. It will likely make access easier. As much as I'd like to get the new one, I already have too many bags and probably need to sell some of the old ones before I bring new ones in.

Like rabergnc, I love this redesign. It sounds as if TB addressed all the issues I'd had with my original Ristretto. Sounds like it's a great bag.

Unfortunately, I'm also like rabergnc in that I have too many bags already and really need to cull a few before adding more.

That said, I am wondering how well the old Ristretto could cradle my Kindle Dx. Hmm... off to test. If it works, what a grand excuse for another bag.

(Notice how quick that turnaround was? LOL)

The new Ristretto looks very nice. Although Darcy has already nixed the idea, I think that the layout could be the new standard for the Cafe bags by simply eliminating the padded laptop compartment. Or better yet, offer the laptop compartment as an option for all sizes of the "new" Cafe bag and the small Cafe can satisfy those clamoring for a "netbook" or Kindle-sized Ristretto.

The Small and Medium Cafe bags definitely won't have d-ring attachment points - most feel that the Absolute, Standard Strap, etc. are too big/bulky for bags so small. We are coming up with a great shoulder pad wrap for the Small and Medium Cafe bags, though!

A Kindle/Netbook Ristretto is in the works.
