    Padded pouch for eyeglasses

When I got my Side Effect I realized I wouldn't be able to put my hard sunglasses case in it and have much room left over. After checking the forums I decided to try a small padded pouch.

It's OK. The padding provides sufficient protection since the pouch is in another bag (Side Effect or Ristretto). But the proportions are a little awkward for glasses. When I put my sunglasses (large plastic frames) in I'd like the pouch to be wider, and when I try to take my regular wireframe glasses out I'd like less height. If the dimensions were more like those of eyeglass cases, a padded pouch would be a great way to carry glasses.

Any chance of having a padded pouch with better proportions for glasses? BTW, in an earlier thread Tom talked about a couple of options for a pouch for sunglasses (zipper or open), and I'd prefer a zipper since I've had eyeglasses fall out of open cases.

    Probably! Sometime in 2011.
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

I'm going to resurrect this thread, since I'd still love to see a Tom Bihn eyeglasses pouch.

A couple of things happened recently that made me think about this again. First, I lost a pair of glasses this week. They were in a regular soft eyeglasses case which must have fallen out of my SCB somewhere. If they had been in a Tom Bihn pouch, strapped into the SCB, I'd still have them (O-rings and key straps are one of the things I love about Tom Bihn bags!).

Second, the hinge on my clamshell case for my sun glasses broke. I bought a soft zippered case, but it's so soft that I'm afraid it doesn't really offer protection. I had been keeping it loose in my SCB, but after the aforementioned incident I played around with the zipper pull so I could attach a key strap to it. So, at least it's tethered, but having something more like one of the padded organizer pouches would make me feel that my glasses were more protected.

So are there any plans to help out us eyeglasses wearers?

I know that the Small Clear Pouch can hold a pair of cheap sunglasses like the ones found on display at department stores/grocery stores.
        It is a tight fit.

I found then misplaced again a Padded Pouch of the same dimension and need to experiment with it. This is the only TB item which has played hide and seek as the other ones have assigned space so that I can grab them, pack them and use them to get out the door fairly, start an artistic, writing project, etc... fairly quickly.

If your glasses are substantial, you might try the Square Pouches like the Knitting Tool or Padded Pouch for the SuperDrive: External Dimensions - 7.8" x 8.3" / 200 x 210 mm; Weight: 2.4 oz / 70 grams.

Thanks for the suggestions, backpack. For my current glasses (wire frame eyeglasses and aviator sunglasses) a small pouch is sufficiently wide, but the height is a little much, making it more bulky than needed. The knitting tool pouches may have nice dimensions for glasses, but aren't padded.

I just tried a small padded pouch and I really think it's so much better than the case I bought - the glasses fit snuggly (but not too tight) and there's a nice layer of padding. So if it were only not as high it would be perfect.

              Padded pouch for eyeglasses

I don't know if this will help, but I found this inexpensive slim neoprene glasses case at a sports store, and it works great for compact glasses. I set a jackery charger in the second photo for scale, as I also sometimes will put some electronics in the case for protection. The fact that there is a clip on the end is a bonus.

I want to resurrect this thread yet again. The small GWOP will be perfect only if it is padded. Any other TB pouch (preferably with a clip) do you use for carrying glasses?

I try to use a fairly minimal hard case when possible, especially when not using my eyeglasses for longer stretches. But in a pinch, I found the black mesh GWOP to be slightly more rigid than the others. Then double up on some microfiber eyeglass pouches, you get your scratch resistance, slight padding, and Bihn branding.

Oh wow!! This is the TB accessory I never knew I absolutely need right now! Darcy - It would be great if TB made a padded larger q-kit / ghost whale pouch for eyeglasses!

                    My Specific Glasses Carry Problem:
I don't need to wear glasses all of the time, but carry 3-4 Rx pairs: sun, distance, reading, ideally a spare distance pair! I'm constantly futzing with them and I've never found an easy way to carry them. I've tried stashing them in the S25 pockets, putting them in SCs, using tablet caches, but nothing really works well. These days I basically just store three pair somewhere in my carry-ons and plan on not having them during travel while I wear one distance pair. Then once seated, I'll put my distance pair in my headphone case which stays in my PCSB flight diddy kit.

So, why don't I keep glasses in my shirt pocket?? Well, for two-bag travel, I found out the hard way: shoulder straps will demolish glasses in chest pockets!

TLDR: a TB padded clippable glasses case would be awesome as it could easily clip into any bag compartment and make access easy.

After noting the date of the first posts within this thread, I'd like to say that we have an amazing glasses case in the works that we've been laboring over intensively for the past 10 years, but reality it just fell off our design list entirely....

Would the Spacer Mesh Ghost Whale be enough padding? IMHO / for my use it would be: a hard case is needed for totally squish-or-crush-proof protection, but I think the mesh would be plenty cushy.

Even though it's apparently taken us nearly a decade to make something like this, it may take a while longer.... when Tom and Nik are in the middle of major design projects, small stuff like this can delay those projects. It seems like it'd be quick, but it still involves a die, bill of materials, SKU, photos, and all the rest of that magic.

I wonder how it would be if you used the small GWOP die but the padded organizer material, or does that add too much bulk to the zippers? I just checked and even my large "fashion style" Maui Jim sunglasses that normally go in a large clamshell case fit in a small GWOP (of course it puckers a bit since the GWOP is flat and my sunglasses aren't, but...

Yeah, might work! However, looks like the smalls are out of production / no longer available? Unless i'm looking in the wrong place?

That link you have goes only to the versions with coloured zippers...

The main GW page has them listed as 'in production'

Thanks, although that's the link for the normal mesh fabric, not the *spacer mesh* fabric which has padding (unless I'm missing it in the giant list?) like the back of a backpack (which has breathable mesh attached to thick "spacer" padding.)

... and it looks like only the colored zipper version is made of spacer mesh I guess?

if true, meaning you can no longer purchase spacer mesh GWs?
