    Monster Truck materials

What material do Y'all prefer for the monster truck? I think I am between Boreal (I like the color and I bet it feels sturdy) and recycled seapine or nebulous (I like the color and I bet it packs well).

I'm not sure whether I should look for attributes like standing up on it's own, or packing down small. Are the differences noticeable?

I have two MTs and both are made with 525 Ballistic (Coyote and Nebulous Gray).

They are equally good at 1.) staying self-supporting, and 2.) packing down flat.

It might just be my own opinion, but the recycled fabrics (like the Seapine) feel a little more supple than the standard ones.

    Highly recommend the 525 MTs!

They're a great "catch all" for car travel. It's nice to have three compartments and two outside pockets to separate items, and I love organizing things with open-top totes, since it makes things very easy to grab (especially if you have to reach behind you and into the back seat).
I own a LOT of Tom Bihn bags, but here are the ones I'm using right now:

    EDC: SK
    Day Hiking: Cambiata
    Car Travel: T45, SZTSB

    Plane Travel: N/A

I like the recycled 630d better than Boreal for the MT. Yes, Boreal is sturdy, but I also find it scratchy for some usages when I'm carrying trucks of any kind. The 525d are fine, too. I don't find the "suppleness" of the 630d material a detriment. It probably won't hold up as well if you plan to drag your bags across concrete surfaces, but that's not in my typical usage plan.

We don't have any trouble with the Boreal collapsing. We really like the color way and continue to add Boreal bags to our collection, most recently the medium yeoman which I broke a sweat over before going for it.

Medium YD is 100% worth the money - I've used it for years on weekend car travel.

Really comes in handy when you don't have the mental bandwidth for playing Tetris with your contents and you just want to chuck it all inside one bag you know will fit everything.

I've been toying with the idea of a mini in 1050, mostly because I like the way they look. Potential use case: a personal item along side an aeronaut? Minimal overnight? Gym I guess?

If you're thinking overnight - go with the small. The mini is exactly as the name implies. Especially if you might want it to double as a gym bag and fit a pair of shoes.

I keep a change of clothes plus an extra fleece, windbreaker, hat, gloves, in a mini YD in my car.
I'm a short person tho, so YMMV

Yeah I've already got a 36L duffel nested inside a 45L nested inside a 60L nested inside a 90L. I don't really have a good excuse to buy another . The mini is kind of cute and cheap though.

It fits a full change of clothes (head to toe) and a toiletry kit (like the SSK) just fine!

If you need to fit shoes, you might want to use a size small, but if you don't the mini should be able to manage an overnight.

I wear a men's size 12 and it's frustrating because fitting those shoes into a bag is often the difference between being able to use a bag for travel or not.

I have two Trucks -- not Monster -- one in Boreal and one in 525 Aubergine. I love Boreal, but find that its comparative stiffness to the 525 means that the Truck's two side chambers will often pull tight toward the main compartment when I fill the main compartment and pick up the bag by the handles. This doesn't happen with the 525, and makes the 525 a better choice for me for going to, say, the farmers' market and putting easily bruised items in those side chambers. Again, these observations are germane to the Truck and perhaps not 100% applicable to the Monster Truck and its dimensions.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'm going to just stick with 630 (i assume) burnt orange. It seems like everyone is happy with their base ballistics.
