It didn't take up all the height of the compartment, but it worked pretty well as there was room for a couple of oddments on top as well.
I don't have a PCSB, but I did find out that a medium sized Eagle Creek Specter Tech packing cube will also fit pretty perfectly into the main compartment, with room for my laptop (Thinkpad X1 Carbon) if I don't use the cache for it. Definitely opens up a lot of options for overnighting/weekend trips with just the Pilot, in my opinion.

Yeah, I get it - and I'm sure the bulk majority of folks defer to the most neutral "business pro" combination of black and gray, but I really do appreciate seeing so many colorful options in new bags like the Cambiata (first production run before most the lining options turned to Mountain Grey Cerylon) and Addax.

Haven't had a chance to review the new accessories (mesh laundry stuff sack, VPC, and small grab bag) but I did a test pack last night, and learned two things:

1.) A fully-packed Vertical Packing Cubelet fits about damn perfectly in either the front left or right compartments on the Co-Pilot (and therefore should be an even easier fit into the same compartments on the Pilot), and

2.) It's also just the right side to fit exactly 1 t-shirt, 1 pair of socks, and 1 pair of underwear - the bare minimum change of clothes, if you wear pants, shoes, and a jacket (etc.) multiple days.

So, if you can also pack a fairly minimal toiletry kit, these cubes can potentially turn the Pilot and Co-Pilot into overnight bags! It also works just the same for bags like the Cambiata - and I haven't tested it yet to confirm, but it makes me think it would translate just as well to the Stowaway. Nice to see TB supporting smaller bags with packing cubes again, even if it's a secondary use for a product like this one - I miss the days when you could buy coordinating cubes (Pilot, NFTD, Stowaway, etc.).

Think I could use a packing cube that I've already got for the main compartment-I've always wanted to try and use my Pilot as a onebag for like a weekend or overnight trip.

I appreciate they still include at least one Black, Gray, and Blue option, but offer more exterior color variety instead of offering the same face fabric (looking at you, Black Ballistic) and just offering different lining colors.

From a sales standpoint? I'll happily buy two of the same bag, if they offer different exterior colors.

But I'm never going to buy two bags with the same exterior color, even if the lining color is different.

Someone did a good job with the color combinations and materials of the Addax. Usually I only like one or two combinations offered (often none), but burnt orange/moab, black x-pack/solaris, constallation/island and wilderness/taiga are great!

And here's a glamour photo of when I took the VPC to Chicago for a conference, in my Pilot, but couldn't share yet because it wasn't announced.

On the flight, it carried snacks, tissue, sanitizer, mints, earplugs, glasses cloth, etc. on a long key strap.

After I checked in for the week, I turned it into a little bag to walk around the city (shoulder strap I brought was rolled up inside).

Not as much organization as my beloved E/TCs, but definitely works and I like the vertical cross body carry for the small bag.

It's not full height of the pocket, especially the Pilot, so you can put other things under it. I had small Clif bars stacked below mine.
Since it's the same size as a 3DOC, I think it's a great idea for toiletries if you're single bagging.
Now that's interesting-I tried it out in my Pilot and just with my clear 3DOC it seems like I could fit two in there. Might be because it's Halcyon and it can expand a bit, but if I use the clear 3DOC for my toiletries I could still use the VPC for smaller stuff. Definitely hope it'll get here for my Thanksgiving trip next week.

Could be awesome for one bag travel: expands to accommodate all the stuff you’re travelling with and cinches down for use as a day pack. The skeleton back panel and edgeless straps are a nice touch. Probably a no-go for me though because I really, really dislike roll top bags for everyday carry. It’s also heavier than I’d like for a day pack.
