Jumping on the SH bandwagon: I also passed due to color options. I'd love to see some exteriors that are not black or grey, paired with halcyon interiors.

ETA: There have never been Halcyon colors like Azalea (which was a Cordura color used for Cafe Bags and the Swift and Little Swift around 2011) or Lavender. They did offer Ursa Ballistic Nylon / Ultraviolet Halcyon for the Side Kick, which looked pretty nice, but in my opinion the Ursa / Acuity combination for the Side Kick was more stunning when it appeared.Last edited by moriond; 04-28-2023, 01:25 PM.

Other than the ubiquitous black with various greys, I don't think they've done a lot of what I would consider 'tone on tone' combos... I think they even made a comment about it when the two Addax bags were launched with Burnt Orange/Moab and Constellation/Island. That was a pretty new vibe, color wise, and I picked the Burnt Orange/Moab as my review bag partly because of that.
They also did some Taiga/Taiga and Wilderness/Taiga.
There were some Night Walk with Tidal items early on too.Last edited by G42; 04-28-2023, 06:41 PM.The whole of life is just like watching a film. I made an exception when I bought my Xpac S19 but ONLY because they paired the black exterior with an orange interior.
I know a lot of folks buy Black/NW Sky, but I'm not one of them.
Totally agree with G42 about the Addax combos. The Burnt Orange/Moab and Constellation/Island looked sharp as heck.
Ursa/Cobalt remains my most recent favorite, although I do like Ursa/Moss, too (it's got a vintage TB vibe and looks like some of the Cordura bags they used to make back in the day). I've got an Ursa/Moss SH on the way, so I'm excited to see what that bag looks like and how it feels in person.I own a LOT of Tom Bihn bags, but here are the ones I'm using right now:
EDC: SH
Day Hiking: ADX26
Car Travel: T45, MT, MYD
Plane Travel: CP, WF, SZTSB
Here's a blog post I wrote about my 3 favorite bags:

Forgot if I posted this earlier in the thread or not but:
I would love to see a Luminary with a mesh back panel
The Luminary is such an elegant design and it is getting warm now, right around the time when I want to spend lots of time on the weekend walking around downtown with a small backpack...but the solid back panel gets hot.Work EDC: S19

Was chatting with someone about the old ballistic colour Indigo - that's a beautiful blue that would be nice to see a return of
This old thread has some nice photos

Indigo debuted first as a Cordura color with the original release of the Synapse. Then the 1050d Ballistic Nylon version debuted with the first release of the Tri-Star. The interior color in both instances was Solar Dyneema (now called Halcyon). I have both bags, but since discussions almost always focus on the latest/current versions, they don't usually appear. The weird behavior of JSON references to old uploaded pictures means that when these pictures are embedded in longer threads, the images that used to just simply show up, often don't, even though Google images will pick them up. You may notice that in a lot of cases trying to actually visit the site of the image in Google images now fails to pull up an image --- these are the pictures that no longer display correctly when referenced in our forum image software since vBulletin 5.
I'll point you to A Synapse hanging about in China. which was a thread started by GEOcycle in 12-11-2012. I posted on 12-13-2012 with this image:
A few comments: The middle compartment of the Tri-Star is holding a Little Swift in Vulcana-Hemp/Steel (also from the first production batch of the Little Swift, and shown in one of the earlier pictures in my post). The bottom left pocket of the Tri-Star is sporting the inverted Triangle logo for the 3 front pockets and the 3 interiors compartments of the Tri-Star. That Luggage tag with the Mountain, red airplane above it, and the TOM BIHN name is one of their earlier luggage tags. The reverse side of the plastic tag can hold either filled out information or a slipped in business card. I still have one of these attached to my Tri-Star, but it's not the same one. (A few years ago the baggage handlers cracked the original luggage tag that was on the bag.) I'll also note that around the time they made up that luggage tag, they had some sticky labels exactly the same size that they would send out with bags.)
Some people have since asked about Indigo, for example this 03-30-2012 question by conejo23 in the indigo supply question thread:
Originally posted by conejo23 View PostI was wondering what happened to bags in Indigo and found this thread after doing a search. Why did you guys stop making Indigo bags? They're so distinctive and it's such a cool color.
I love my steel Brain Bag, but if you guys offered an Indigo one, I might just need to order it.

At the time they retired Indigo in ballistic nylon, which is the relevant fabric for the Aeronaut, Tri-Star, Co-Pilot, Western Flyer, and bags of that sort, they also introduced Forest, Navy, and Cardinal as new Ballistic Nylon colors. That doesn't entirely explain why the production of Brain Bags in Indigo (Cordura) also slacked off, while they continue to offer the Synapse in Indigo (Cordura), but I think it's a case of coordinating colors of bags. But it does mean that there are economic factors in investing in any particular fabric color stock, and that enters into long-term planning of what bag and color combinations can be offered.

ETA: I also have the Swift in Indigo/Black Ballistic Nylon, and various Cordura pouches in Indigo.
Trivia point: GEOcycle was the forum member who initially introduced the Buy all the bags meme to the forums

To whom it may concern:
Please consider making the Techonaut 45 in XPac, and I will be forever indebted to TB. While I love my Synik30, I cannot fit what I need for week-long trips. But an XPac T45 would be the ultimate travel backpack I could wish for.
Btw, I love the TB factory outside of Seattle and I hope to visit it again. The staff were fantastic there (yes, I was the guy who wore the Able Carry Max. How dare I do that at the TB HQ? What nerve! j/k)

After a year of using other bags (from other brands) and now once again trying to make my Maker's Bag work as a camera bag, it's time to renew my wish for a scaled-down Maker's Bag. Something with the organization and horizontal orientation of the Maker's Bag, but about 8-10 liters similar in size to what a horizontal Medium Cafe Bag would look like. The MCB is the right size for my camera needs, but the vertical orientation doesn't work, and it doesn't have enough internal organization for all the bits that go along. A scaled-down Maker's Bag (Creator's Bag?) would be perfect!Rambling On. . . . .

I love the large travel tray, I own several, but I wish it had a divided tray option. If the tray was divided into thirds, maybe space the dividers like hands on a clock (if that makes sense), it would be much more useful with small items (i.e. cosmetics or toiletries) that I like to keep together but not jumbled into a mess when traveling.

Check out what we're working on at TOM BIHN: new colors, new bags, Night Flight Travel Duffel update
Totally cool to have it as a Wish, just know that the material isn't available anymore, until/unless they find someone else to make it.
FWIW, there must be thousands of halcyon DLBPs out in the world, so they should come up on the second hand market periodically, hopefully for not-so-eye-watering prices. The whole of life is just like watching a film.
