"I totally went marsupial with my Brain Bag and Synapse last weekend. I much prefer the Synapse for my everyday backpack, so I packed it in the front half of the Brain Bag to get through security and whatnot. At the gate just before boarding, I removed the Synapse (and rearranged just a few things) and cinched up the side straps on the Brain Bag. Brain Bag went in the overhead bin, Synapse at my feet. Worked like a charm!"

Hey backpack! Thanks for this thread, in an effort to try and pack as efficiently as possible, knowing which bags can comfortable fit in others is awesome. it's like a great big, complex TB puzzle.

My Small Cafe Bag fits perfectly into the small side of the divided front compartment of my Tri-Star. But my netbook (in a Cache-like sleeve) fits perfectly there too, so I've been putting the SCB into the middle compartment instead. I also like being able to put my SCB into my Synapse along with my netbook, various chargers, a water bottle, etc. The Swift is another bag that the SCB could fit into, but mine is always too full of knitting projects... maybe I need a second one.

My small café bag fits into my Synapse, which is great if I need to take it along for a purse and want to leave the Synapse at the apartment/hotel/work, etc.

The Side Effect fits very well in the front bottom pocket of the Synapse IF it's not overstuffed.

I'm very excited about this thread, because I have a backpack/shoulder bag combination from another bag manufacturer simply because the shoulder bag (about the size of the Small Cafe Bag) is designed to fit in & clip to a big pocket in the front of the backpack (which is designed like the Brain Bag but closer in size to between the Synapse & the Smart Alec -- a great size, by the way!).

Once I get a Field Journal Notebook (hopefully for school this fall!), I will use that as my purse-type bag & figure out how it will fit best in the Synapse -- probably in the pocket inside the main compartment?

My Little Swift - which is essentially my purse - spends my commute as the top layer inside my Smart Alec. Once I get to the office, I can easily grab it to take to meetings or lunch.

Well, this is going to be a long reply because you all want to see pictures of Tom Bihn bags in Tom Bihn bags, right? Right.

I got my order today and was tickled that whoever packed it gave me matching conifer clear organizer pouches to go with the conifer 3D-organizer cube which in turn matches the conifer Synapse! Thank you! *hugs pouches*

So, I wanted to see if you could put a packing cube of clothes in a Synpase. As I mentioned in another post, I am heading to the UK but only wanted to take my Synapse and Small Café Bag with me on the London segment.

Here is the Synapse fully loaded.



And here it is with Tom Bihn bags within the Tom Bihn bag! This is an Aeronaut end-pocket mesh organizer cube and a Cache holding my MacBook Air. Not shown, but in the main compartment attached to O-rings are two small organizer pouches -- one clear, one not -- holding my computer accessories. The 3D organizer cube is in the bottom pocket.



And here's everything I crammed into the Synapse. The only thing I forgot to put in the picture is my Kindle 3 with lighted cover, but it was in the bag in the water bottle pouch.



Clockwise from the top, there's my empty Synapse, Cache with 11-inch MacBook Air, a pen, my iPhone 4 in an Otterbox case, 3D clear organizer pouch, small clear organizer pouch with the MBA's charger and plug converter for the UK, a small olive cordura organizer pouch with my battery charger, mouse and Square card reader, an olive clear organizer wallet, a mini clear organizer pouch with Bose headphones and the Aeronaut end-pocket cube.

In the cube is all this:



This is clothing for two days. On the left is a bundle with a t-shirt, a tank and a small top that covers my shoulders. In the middle are my pajamas and on the right is a summer dress since we're seeing a play in the West End. Under all this is a spare bra, two pairs of underwear and socks.

The bag was actually fairly comfortable holding all of this. When I go on the trip itself, several things will be redistributed to the small café bag (wallet, phone, Kindle, possibly one of the organizer pouches) The only thing that I couldn't get in the backpack was the pair of sandals I want to wear with the dress, but those I'll most likely stick in my husband's backpack. On a day-to-day basis, the cube will hold my exercise clothes. I already tried it out with the much lighter daily load and it's fantastic. For the UK trip, it'll hold a change of clothes in case my bag gets misplaced during the flight.

@DQBunny, lol, I just posted a similar setup last night in Plum. Differences being that you took more and better pictures and a few other particulars in the details of packing. Thanks for sharing your system, it gives me some ideas for the future!

Oh, and the Aeronaut Small Packing Cube fits very well in the Brain Bag, horizontal. I'm sure a few of them could stack in each compartment (I only have one).

Since there are all these great recent pictures of the traveling Synapse, both here and in Dorayme's Minimalist Overnight post to name just a few, it's worth reminding people of notmensa's 'Locking' zippers on the Synapse thread. I use her second option with small Carabiners and black split rings.
