Smart Alec for a Smart Architect

    Hello!
I have a few questions about the Smart Alec.
    1. I regularly carry drawings on 11" x 17" paper. Would these fit (unfolded and unrolled) in the Smart Alec?
    2. These uretek zippers seem like a bad idea. Sleek, yes, but how long does the seal hold up? Am I going to with there was a flap over the zipper in 3 months? 6? 24?
    3. I guess that's it!

    Hi-
I have my trusty Smart Alec right here next to me.
    1. The 11" x 17" drawings would definitely not fit completely flat, unfolded/unrolled. One fold would do it, though.
    2. Fear not about the zippers. My SA has travelled thousands of miles with me already over the past couple years, including in rain and snow. The zippers (and everything else about it) are every bit as good as advertised.
It's worth considering that your entire purpose in life could be to serve as a warning to others.

      Too bad.
The sleekness of the SA makes it the only Tom Binh backpack I will consider, and accommodating 11" x 17" is non-negotiable!

Regards Uretek zippers: We've been using them for several years, specifically on the Smart Alec, and the very few complaints we've had are about tiny strands of coating pulling away from the edge near the teeth, which turns out to be a cosmetic thing only and doesn't appear to get any worse. Otherwise the coating seems to hold up quite well.

Brain Bag fits 11 x17's standing up. I do it all the time. I've even taken along as much as 300 sheets of 11 x 17's with a laptop.
Happy owner of (2) brain bags, (1) super ego, (1) ruck's sac, (3) freudian slips, (3) brain cells, (2) snake charmers, (1) soft cell and assorted organizer pouches, straps and packing cubes
