How do you carry your reusable straw?

Hi! I just added a Klean Kanteen stainless steel straw to my EDC. I was surprised at how tall it was, when it arrived in the post. Right now it’s just wrapped in a paper towel in my S19 water bottle pocket, but I was wondering about a better way to transport it - so that the silicone tip doesn’t get bent and also to keep it clean (dry, not lint-y) when not in use. (It’s too tall for my small Ghost Whale!) I could use a Freudian Slip to keep it straight, but that would be more volume and weight that I otherwise don’t need in my S19. A small detail, but I like having my EDC just so. What do you clever Bihnions use?

I have a stainless steel straw from the Virginia Aquarium. It's at home so I can't tell you the exact length, but it fits in the my SE and in the pen/pencil COP.

I can attach a pic later, but I believe I have the same Kleen Kanteen stainless steel straws with the bent silicone tips. I actually hated the length and flexibility of the silicone tips, so I cut them. Obviously this isn't a solution for everyone, but now they fit in the pen slots of my SK and I'm not annoyed by the overly bendy straw.

I have an orange-tipped stainless steel straw in one of the pen slots in this pic. I trimmed it to about 1/4 inch past the Kleen Kanteen logo on the silicone, which is pretty much exactly the right height for the SK to zip closed over top of it.

Thanks! I thought the colored bendy tips were a good way to tell them apart but now I'm thinking a shorter one would be more portable. I'll keep an eye out!

Thank you! Interesting idea! I haven't used my straws yet, but that's a good hack. They came in a pack of five - I might even cut one down and see which version I like better.

Someone somewhere posted about carrying a Final Straw - I can't remember if it was here or on the Ravelry TB Forum

At Final we create sexy and sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic. #SuckResponsibly with FinalStraw & BiggieStraw, reusable, collapsible, portable straws, and stop forking with plastic pollution with FinalFork or FinalSpork. Foreverables fold up to fit in a sleek keychain-sized case so they go where you go!

I use the bent stainless steel straws, which are (as mentioned above) too big for the Pen/Pencil pouch or the regular Ghost Whale, but fit with room to spare in the small Stowaway packing cube and I expect therefore will fit in the A5 GWP. I was considering getting a Final Straw, but I'm not sure if the collapsibility is worth the approximately 12x cost!

In my opinion, it is NOT. I don't get the attraction of these, they are awkward to fold and hard to fit back into their containers, and the kind I got has a little cleaner stick that does not work very well and is difficult to get back in the case. I like the stainless straws so much better, even though they are not collapsible, but hey, NO PLASTIC!

I would love to see some kind of telescoping stainless straw that had no plastic or silicone in it, that could approximately halve the size of a normal straw.

I just recently started carrying a stainless steel straw, I bought it to go in a little silverware kit I was making. Here's the photo I posted a few weeks ago:

I've left the sewing machine out so I can do some mending... but what I got it out for in the first place was a much more exciting project: I made myself a little fabric roll to hold a "youth size" fork, spoon, and knife, along with a stainless steel straw and a napkin. Now that's part of my EDC so I don't have to use disposables as much.

And @G42, it was @ceepee who posted about using a Final Straw in a small Ghost Whale Pouch (before we knew there would even be another size of GWOP). I remember because that post was the inspiration for my silverware kit:

With a hanky/serviette, GoBites Duo cutlery, Final Straw and a snack bar in the pouch it's a very tight squeeze. However, if I take the Kind bar out everything fits nicely and there's room for some small wrapped chews or boiled sweets or even a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer.
I have a bunch of great bags. Favorite color combos include Aubergine/Island, Navy/Solar, Forest/UV, Original Halcyon/Wasabi, Cloud/Viridian... and now also Seapine/UV!

I've fulfilled my dream of palindromic-colored nested bags! Navy/Ultraviolet Pilot with Aubergine/Island Side Effect inside: blue purple purple blue. Forest/UV A45 with Aubergine/Wasabi Co-Pilot inside: green purple purple green.

anna2222 (or anyone who's looking for a better brush) - I don't know which brand of straw you have. I think I saw a review of the Klean Kanteen straws that complained about the brush that came with the set. I haven't tried my brush yet, but I used an OXO brush that I already had - it comes in this set: OXO water bottle cleaning brush set

It was the right width for the KK straw - a little bit of friction to clean the inside but not so much that it was a struggle, or that it deformed the silicone tip. Hope that's helpful to someone!

aedifica, love the fabric roll! And your silverware kit looks so nice in there.

I find I'm often having to put my spork away in a hurry, so I usually just wrap it up in a paper napkin and wash when I get home. But I've been thinking about repurposing some of the cloth napkins we have (and never use). They're too big and bulky for my EDC. I might cut them in half and sew down one corner as a sort of pocket for my spork and straw. And maybe put the whole thing in one of my medium OPs, which are currently languishing as I have switched to Cubelets, mostly.

I mostly use a Jansport digital burrito. I’m still hoping TB comes out with a longer knitting needle pouch 11” with elastic to prevent metal utensils from floating around and clicking against each other.

I usually roll with two sets of utensils, three straws and two sets of travel chopsticks from Muji. I pretty much leave it in the middle console of my car unless I go to a food place or I’m traveling.

That's such a delightful solution! Funny name too. Love the elastic. What material is it - just cotton, or some kind of poly blend?

I might dig out some extra knitting needle cases that I have lying around. Same general idea.

I can't think of the last time I used a straw... I don't tend to drink cold beverages other than water... I bring real silverware to work every day with my lunch though and I bought nylon pouches off of Etsy from this seller:

Shop Quality..Reusable Produce BAGS and everyday napkins~~ by LoveForEarth located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Rave reviews! Average review rating is 4.8 or higher

They're not made to TB quality standards (I now notice details like straight stitching) but they're perfectly usable and I've had them over a year now. I think the seller makes them partly to order so you could always order a specific size if you didn't want to be crafty like @aedifica
