    Travel/Hiking Radio

I own and highly recommend the Sangean DT-400W for your travel and hiking adventures, or just as an everyday carry radio.

I've been looking for a radio like that: I like the color.
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

Current carry: testing new potential materials in the form of Original Large Shop Bags.

      Darcy:

The color makes it easy to spot in my TB cafe and Imago
      bags.

        Yaesu FT-817nd

Now this is a Travel/Hiking Radio!

I have used mine to talk over 300 miles from a 14,000' trail in Colorado among other amazing contacts.
It will also tune standard AM/FM broadcast and Weather too.

          Travel/Hiking/Walking Radio

Another high performance pocket radio to consider is the
          Sony SRF T615 @ $110 USD.

BTW, the Yaesu FT 817 mentioned on this thread sells for
$599. A bit of overkill for our purposes and requires a
ham radio license...but I'm putting on my wish list.

I assume you mean for "Your" purposes?
For me i is exact right radio and so much more.
You do not need a License to use this radio, only to transmit with it.
It is a great receiver too.

Also no one pays $599.00 for them,Ham's are the CHEAPEST people I have ever met and I have met a lot of cheap people!

Of course, don't overlook the need for custom bags too.

This is my current favorite, always riding in my Brain Bag/Emergency Kit.

Trust me,right now ANYONE can easily get an Amateur Radio License if they want to.
