My local fabric store managed to stock great quantities of really soft 1/8” elastic for $0.70/yard CAD and I’ve had great luck with it when using the TB mask patterns. Feedback from friends and family who got masks from me has also been good.

Most fabric stores in my area are also taking orders over the phone and having it available for pickup, so even if you aren’t a fan of going into your store it can’t hurt to call and ask what they have on hand that they’re recommending for making masks.

Thanks Darcy - I'll let her know. So it would need to be cut into strips, is that correct?

Thanks ClicketySnap - my wife has looked at the 1/8" elastic in the local fabric store but isn't happy with it for earloops. Some of the masks (not the Tom Bihn ones) use that type and they're nowhere near as comfortable as the earloops on the TB masks.

I'm not sure how it compares to what was on the masks in May, but sharing in case this is of interest to you, either the name or the photos of the item. Good luck!

Thanks @Lixpdx - hard to tell from the photo but it does look like it may be softer than the typical 1/8" round elastic cord that we've been able to find at the fabric store. I'll pass that along to my wife and see what she thinks about it.

Yes, Cristina, I think that's probably what was happening for me as well, since we are in Canada. It must be restricted to US addresses.

Good point about needing to be careful with ironing to avoid melting anything with nylon or other synthetics, kansha! I'll let my wife know about using single-knit fabric with spandex.
