Which umbrella?

Which umbrella is worthy to ride on a Brain Bag? Prefer something made in USA!

#2
I use a Sea to Summit umbrella, also pictured here and here in my Western Flyer. The umbrella comes with a slip cover and a mesh case, but I don't use them since they add unnecessary weight. I've had no problems at airport security at either Australian domestic or European airports.

I've just ordered the Birdiepal Light Basic Trekking Umbrella</> from Sierra Trading Post. Looks like a bargain for $14.95!

How are these quality-wise? Also, from the pictures you cannot see the handle...what type is it?

Hi bltkmt,
The specs on the product page say it's Aircraft grade aluminum shaft with a rubberized handle. The quality seems good, and it's certainly much nicer than other cheap 'compact' umbrellas I've bought over the years. Sea to Summit seems to be a reliable brand for outdoor gear. The umbrella does turn inside out in high winds, but I've found that happens with any small / light umbrellas.

Yet to find an umbrella that doesn't.

Haven't tried a GustBuster yet though.

I think the point of the better umbrellas is that after they blow inside-out, you can push them back into shape.

Good point, gmanedit!
I was comparing it to a large golf umbrella or one with a more egg-shaped dome.

The Sea to Summit has been blown inside-out a few times, but has always kept it's shape. The dome structure is fiberglass, which is more flexible than Al and so returns to its shape.
