    Launchcast!

    Hey!

If you like a wide variety of music and like hearing new stuff plus all the stuff you're familiar with and have grown to love, you should try creating your own station using the Yahoo! radio service Launchcast. Initially you select a few artists you like as well as the genres and it generates a station for you. Then it fine tunes itself as each song that plays you rate the song, artist and album which further pinpoints what you like. You can also intentionally rate certain artists on the Launchcast page as never play, it's ok, love it or can't get enough and you'll hear those artists on your station accordingly. There are limits on song skipping etc. if you're using the free version. I got so hooked, I ponied up the $30 for a year's subscription.

They also offer really good, commercial-free pre-programmed stations. I personally like Cool as Folk, Indie Pop and 80s Alternative quite a bit.

Check it out! KEXP has my endorsement as well, it's just not as interactive.

        Hey again,

You know I got myself so worked up into a Launchcast frenzy, I forgot about the one big drawback which is that it isn't Mac friendly. And that IS a really huge drawback. Damn them anyhow, how could I have forgotten about that? I guess I'm just a gigantic music geek and I've had so much fun playing around with it, it slipped my mind. One can hope one day they'll remedy that situation. If I were actually on their payroll, you can bet they would!

Hey no sweat. I just seem to remember trying it out a while ago and kinda moving on unimpressed. I was sure we weren't experiencing the same thing here so back to KEXP for me it looks like Not to say that's a bad thing by any means.

By the way, 7-11 has free iTunes song codes printed on their Slurpee cups now for anyone who's interested... I just got the ultimate metal ballad, "Silent Lucidity," for free.
