The Official Unofficial Tom Bihn Forum Beverage Thread!!!

Post whatever you would like related to beverages. Alcoholic, nonalcoholic, a favorite, what you drank last night, last weekend, or even what you are drinking while you are typing!! No need for fancy reviews or minimum number of palate components, but feel free to post if you wish. Pictures welcome but not necessary. One at a time, unless you had a very exciting evening and wish to share!

As good a place to start as any---

Friday night had one of my favorite beers. Celebrator Doppelbock from Ayinger. Awesome Doppelbock. A gold standard, really. If you buy the bottle it even comes with a little white plastic goat hanging around the neck.

My favorite coffee brand: Single Origin & Artisan Coffee - Zoka Coffee Roasters & Tea

Unfortunately, this is not what I'm drinking while I'm typing. Starbucks *sigh*

I'm a tea woman. My tastes range from the low-brow to the...er, other low-brow options. Right now I'm into anything fruity, and iced rather than hot. We tried iced blueberry tea a few weeks ago and it was funky but tasty!

I love tea, both iced and hot. I like herbals, fruit, rooibos and white teas best.
I really, really like TB Bags!

Katy, have you ever tried iced barley tea? You can get tea bags from stores that specialize in Japanese foods, or larger Asian grocery stores. It has a very different flavor from traditional iced teas, but it has a marvelous flavor that doesn't need any extra flavoring. Nothing like holding a huge, tall, sweaty glass full of ice cubes and barley tea in the heat of the summer!

Personally my favorite beverage of choice has to be plain ol' drip coffee from Peet's. With Splenda and skim milk. Second favorite? Club soda in a tall glass with ice cubes (which I think tastes better than drinking straight out of the bottle).

Barley tea sounds good -- how would you describe its flavor? Like dorayme, I'm a fan of (iced, unsweetened) rooibos.
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

Current carry: testing new potential materials in the form of Original Large Shop Bags.

No, I have not! It looks like a trip to Uwajimaya is in order this weekend!

My name is OnMyWay and I'm a diet Coke addict. I know it's bad for me but I need at least one a day.

I'm going to have to experiment with flavored teas to see if I can break my habit...

                    I made this last night:

Perfect Iced Coffee | The Pioneer Woman Cooks | Ree Drummond

I think I may have solved my coffee shop problem!

Hey, OnMyWay... only 1 Diet Coke/day? If I have less than three I have withdrawal.

I've also fixed the coffeeshop problem... we just got a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine and Baratza Vario coffee grinder. I've experimented with Velton's Bonsai Blend espresso beans (really good) and I'm getting my first batch of Intelligentsia Black Cat beans in the next day or two. I dare say I'm making much better espresso and lattes than we can get at any of our local coffee shops. Now working on latte art!

I had some of my own homebrew recently. It was a Blonde Ale but I have to say it's not that great. I'm not sure if it was my brewing or just the style. I suspect a bit of both. I do also have a clone recipe of the Cynic ale from Surly Brewing in MN. It turned out pretty decent but I'm saving that. Also have a nice dry stout on tap and a few others in the making.

That thread has given me the idea to hunt for chicory and splurge on sweetened milk and half and half.

Any ideas where I can find plain chicory in the U.S?

The Whole Paycheck store has some but it is mixed with Barley stuff, who does that?

Chocolate milk and Italian sodas drinker here.

Victory (PA) Baltic Thunder Porter. Dark dark dark. Mildly sweet body and nice long bittersweet finish. Yum.

I don't know about plain chicory, but you can easily get chicory coffee. Just look for Cafe du Monde coffee. Better still... Go to New Orleans and get the stuff from the source along with beignets.

My favorite drinks: diet dr pepper, sweet tea (when eating southern meat and three or BBQ), hot tea (Darjeeling with a little rock sugar or some Chinese varieties with milk and sugar) and wheat beers or american brown and pale ales. Variety is the spice of life, right?
