this is a topic close to my heart, considering i, myself, work for an american manufacturer known for innovative and high quality products!

a few of my favorites:

w.s. badger (natural personal care products, gilsum, nh; their sunblock is one of my favorite and one of the safest per EWG!)

one more (DELICIOUS) addition:

askinosie chocolate: Askinosie Chocolate

realllllllllllly good, made from scratch chocolate that gives back 10% of the net sale of each bar to the acutal farmer who grew the cacao used in the bar's production.

they have a lot of good things going on even in the smallest details. for example, the strand of burlap that ties each bar's packaging shut is from a burlap sack that cacao was shipped in, which they pay folk attending a job training program to dismantle and tie onto each bar (training is done by springfield victory mission, which is one of the bigger homeless shelters in SW missouri; they do incredible, incredible work). those wages then are used to take field trips and contribute toward other programs benefitting fellow shelter residents.

cuppow (http://www.cuppow.com/): i have been using these for a while now and they are so handy! they are lids that you can put onto mason jars to turn them into travel mugs. they're handy for when i make morning tea and want to let it cool a bit during my commute before i drink (sometimes my hydroflask insulates a little *too* well, heh). the BNTO product on the homepage was just introduced, as well, and lets you separate ingredients in a single jar (say, for salad dressing in a jar o' salad). i haven't tried those yet but they look handy as heck.

linoto linen sheets

hi there: i was looking at these. quite expensive. a couple of questions:
1. are the sheets crisp in finish? I hate the sateen ones. since they are linen, i assume so
2. are they floppy? some linens get that way--so want to know how they feel
3. do they wash and dry well in regular home washing machines
4. are they substantial in feel

Hi Shiva, well since they are 100% linen, they are kind of crisp... but soft at the same time. They just feel good. Linen is my favorite fiber because it breathes and is crispy and structured and soft and drapey all at once. I wash my sheets every week in hot water in my front loading machine with baking soda, Oxyclean (my sheets are white), and a sprinkle of powder detergent and a few squirts of Dr. Bronner's Lavender soap. Then I hang them out on the line to dry. They take only about an hour or two to dry and then yes, I would describe them as crispy but not rough. They also smell like sunshine in a weird sort of way. If it's raining or cold out, I might hang them inside or damp dry them in the dryer and spread on my bed to dry, but never do I dry them completely in the dryer (it is bad for the linen fibers). Then I would say they are soft, but definitely not sateen like. They are very substantial without feeling heavy. I love that they breathe. We sleep comfortably on hot summer nights now, and I actually did not use my flannel sheets this winter... they didn't feel too cold either. You could call Jason at Linoto (might need to leave a message) or e-mail him and ask if he can send you a swatch. I ended up just ordering a pair a of white pillowcases before I took the plunge into sheets. They are very expensive (I had to build up my sets slowly), but should last decades with good care. I think there are some pillowcases in the sale section right now. I hope this helps!

thanks for the detailed reply...really helps. will order some pillowcases maybe and go from there. I like the sound of them...and I would rather have one or two sets of this, than have several that are so-so--just as I now have 3 TB bags and that is it...other than a couple of larger duffle bags for my travel to India!!! I just don't like the feel of Sateen sheets...and it has become impossible to find simple crisp cotton sheets that are substantial. I used to have Lands' End percales; and oxfords--they are all quite skimpy; and Garnet Hill, The Company Store---none of them feel as good as they used to be. I hate sounding like those old folks and the days of yore...but when it comes to sheets, it seems that way!!
