Holy moly! (so much make-up you have to check it in?!?)

I was browsing the web and ran across some popular gal named Kandee Johnson. I'd never heard of her, but she's got some make-up tips and writes a blog (and posts lots of videos).

She had a YouTube video called "How to Travel (fly) with Make-Up" so of course I had to check it out (How To Travel (fly) with Make-Up - YouTube).

Oh my goodness, my jaw just dropped. I've never had that much make-up ever in my life!

Thanks for posting - it gave me a good laugh! Especially her passing reference to travelling light, for which she recommends we use a PVC cube the size of a large TB TS cube for our makeup (just when travelling LIGHT, remember).

But what really stood out for me was the call, from a very unlikely source, for a new TB product:

Now there's a gap in the TB line (and a product tailor-made for Azalea, Sapphire, Plum, UV and all the other girly jewel colours) . Actually, I think I know exactly how it should work!

It seems like she is a professional makeup artist so I'm sure her idea of the "basics" is much different than mine or yours. I take such a small amount of makeup with me when flying or travelling for business. If it is a car trip and I know I'm going to be going out on the town or maybe to a wedding, I might bring my entire makeup kit...which fits in a medium OP.

Well, If you just include the brushes, combs and sprays, an Aeronaut. But if you include their hair dryer, then two Aeronauts. And if we need to take towels too, three Aeronauts!

I actually travel with one large Rubbermaid bin (combs, brushes, sprays, "jewelry" (leashes and collars)). A large rolling scrpbook tote (hair dryer). And a large gym bag (towels).

The joke in the dog show world is that their combs cost $30, mine are 99 cents at WalMart. My hairdryer is a $30 Conair, again from WalMart. Their's cost $500. I use Suave on my hair, their shampoo costs $45 a gallon....

Yep, I think you're right. I did notice that she mentioned something about "if you're just traveling with your own makeup" right before she started showing you how to use bubble wrap or a big fluffy scarf to wrap your makeup palette in. Hehe.

I think it is either a sampling of what she takes on professional makeup jobs and an attempt to give ideas to people who travel with a makeup wardrobe.

I use to be one of those, minus the foundation ( much to the consternation of every makeup counter person, foundation gives me Mrs Doubtfire's looks)

The best way to store eye shadow singles, doubles, trio or even quads or mini multicolor shadow pallets as well as powder blush and face powder compacts is inside the Kit. They need to be tightly packed against one another and the Kit needs to become the core of a clothes bundle.

Well, I have a number of Kits but after trying that for a rehearsal packing, I got scared that the containers would break and soil my beautiful Kits.

Then I found out about all the nasty stuff inside makeup and my skin convinced me, by getting rashes, that I better go organic only.

I still use one color of eyeshadow/blush mini compact and travel size brushes to use very lightly in case I look too tired.
However, I found out that a good evening meal and night sleep as well as an early breakfast is much better for that.

However, the minimal makeup setup is now inside of a cushy makeup bag which is on one side of the unbelievable Clear Quarter Packing Cube =>
Dyneema + Urethane = washable

I highly recommend a good lip balm and various lip liners, to save space as well as avoid a disastrous melted lipstick mess.

I'm a huge advocate of this. For one thing, it means you pack fewer items! Instead of lip balm AND lipstick AND lip gloss or whatever else to pack, you only have one tube of tinted lip balm, and lip liner/pencil if you use those.

For years, I used mostly LipTone from Blistex. I think they still make them, but it's harder to find. Fortunately, Burt's Bees recently came out with a great line of lip balms called Tinted Lip Balm, so now everyone gets to choose what shade to go with (Tinted Lip Balm- Burt's Bees). And the stuff works great as a lip balm!

Here's my travel make-up: 2.5 oz. container of SPF face cream, lip balm (such as Burt's Bees), and a small tube of cover-up (it looks like a tan lipstick). My husband still thinks I take a lot of "junk". You can't win ... I'm going to have him watch that video. Maybe he'll appreciate my "junk" a little more.
