Emergency Preparedness

My state of Colorado is up in flames. Thankfully, my house and loved ones are safe, but I'm using the reminder to revisit my emergency preparedness plans.

I'll probably buy a Brain Bag to update my go bag.

We are safe so far here in Colorado Springs. The fire crested the western ridge at about 4:30, and now most of those foothills neighborhood are either burning or at risk. Unbelievable. I live a few miles to the east from the destruction (east of Interstate 25), but tonight I've been wondering which Bihn bags I should pre-pack just in case. They are starting to call this "The Perfect Firestorm." Many people are losing their homes and businesses right now.

I didn't take this but it sums it all up in one picture.



These I did take. Not from the same place but pretty close. The first is Monday evening, before the fire "blew up". The scond is yesterday about an hour after it came into town.

WhiteStar - you are so right. We saw that first explosion over the ridge yesterday, and just couldn't believe our eyes. The next few days and weeks will bring many challenges. But we can be strong if we all stand together. We may all be wearing bandannas over our faces when we go outside in the smoke, and look like bandits from the Old West, but we can stand together!

I just got off the phone with my daughter. Her work place in Monument is under a "pre" evacuation warning. Being a mom and 1,500 miles away is not the easiest. WhiteSart, TavaPeak, apbailey, everyone, please stay safe. Loosing a home to fire is not easy, ask me how I know, but it is not the end of the world, life is not replaceable.

Pretty scary! I was just in Colorado Springs for work the week before this fire started. Some morning you could smell the Ft Collins fire on the wind. Praying for all my Colorado peeps. Some of the Boeing employees have already had to evac. This will be California in a month or so!
