    iPhone 5

Did anyone besides me and Katy order a new iPhone yesterday? (Confidential to Katy: thanks for reminding me—it's been a very.long.week.) I generally have to persuade myself to upgrade my phone, but I felt that since I've almost maxed out the capacity of my 32 GB iPhone 4 and I have managed not to break it, lose it, or put it through the wash [1] in over two years, I was justified this time.

In addition to the panorama option in iPhoto and on-the-fly editing feature, which will indubitably aid my awesome photography skillz, I have to say I'm really looking forward to asking Siri the most offensive and subjective questions, just so she tells me they're subjective.

[1] Yes, I've done this. It was an iPhone 3GS, just one month before my free upgrade was to go into effect. Siiiigh.

I'm pretty excited about the new iPhone and due for a new one since mine is over 2 years old. However I prefer to buy it in person. Guess I'll wait a month or two until the dust settles and I can get one without waiting in a line. Still trying to figure out the Verizon/AT&T, white/black, 32GB/64GB questions.

The only glitch is that my iPhone 4 is worth $180 if I ship it to Gazelle by October 1st. This might mean being without an iPhone for a few weeks. Wondering if I could survive the deprivation?

I saw the presentation for iPhone 5, being stuck with dumdroid for a couple of years, I am amazed at the capabilites of the iPhone 5, it is like it is made for me.

I am also ultra impressed about the iPads, the Airs and the Pros!

My 78-year-old Dad is already jonesing for the 5 (from the 4). Because he needs to, like, text me faster or something. And he wants to look at iPads, too. But he has to wait until I'm home from this business trip (I manage the family plan for me, Mom, and Dad). Dad is pretty hip to the tech, and had an iPhone before I did ... and it appears he'll have an iPad before I do, too!

I have a feeling we'll order upgraded phones for him and Mom this week. /jealous

I ordered one for my wife - she has an iPhone 4 that still works, but the battery life is pretty poor. We will keep it as backup.

Badger - I am curious how you filled 32gb...do you keep music/movies on yours?

I'm probably going to get one but I'll wait until the first batch is delivered and any bugs worked out. I have a two years old Blackberry which is useless. I'm still toying between the Iphone 5 and a Droid because I just got the Nexus 7 tablet to use while traveling instead of lugging any type of computer. I'm getting to like Android and find myself using it daily.

However, I'm thinking one droid, one ios.....best of both worlds.

I keep audiobooks and radio plays on my ipod touch to listen to while traveling, waiting, etc. I'll do the same with my iphone. I think the screen is just too small for movies. 32gb is enough for me.

I plan to get an iPhone 5, especially if I can get a good price on my iPhone 4. I've never sold an old phone before, but looks like I can get a good price for my iPhone 4. Is Gazelle the main one, or best one, to use? I see there are several sites but I imagine there are plenty of sites that are less than respectable.

@blkmkt, I do keep tons of music on my phone. Tons. And I play many stupid games that eat up memory, too (Pocket God, I'm looking at you). I decided to get the 64 GB phone to accommodate video projects: I can shoot a bunch of video and not have to rush to a computer or hope there's wifi available to get the footage into the cloud asap. I'm a little amused by my own excitement.

@dwright17, there are a couple sites like it. But the best bang for the buck is if you sell it yourself. When upgrading from the iPhone 3G to the 4 2 years ago my wife and I just about completely covered the upgrade cost by selling on craigslist.

I can't afford the lastest technology but dumbdroid is getting on my very last nerve, getting anything done is painfully slow, full of error messages, the screen is either too sensitive (popping up an ad I just lightly brushed) but refusing to open one of the choices from the same window, not matter how hard I pushed the icon.

What are the differences between the iPad2 and the New iPad and between iPhone 4 and iPhone 5?

Here's one way to compare. I'm quite interested in the rumors (on MacRumors, and others) about a mini iPad.

Apple - iPhone 5 - Compare specifications between iPhone models.

I've only had my iPhone 4 about 14 months, so I don't see upgrading until I'm out of the two-year contract first.

I'm also very unhappy that they chose to use a new connector. They could've been like every other manufacturer and used a micro USB but nooooooo. They create their own that nobody else can sell for a while. I see it as a bit greedy not to mention unnecessary (and unecological), even though I love my phone.

I raised my dissatisfaction with the new plug and the price of a new adapter ($29) on my website and boy did I get an earful. I guess it's best not to mess with the cult that is Apple. I use Gomadic and their tip exchange for my cords and they are expecting to have a Lightning tip in a couple of months. I'll bet the Chinese knockoffs will be available about the same time as the phone.

I'm usually the first of my friends and family to upgrade to the Next Greatest Thing, but since my iPhone 4S is just a year old, and since I've gotten every new iPad on its release date, I'm going to sit this one out. Although I really do like the idea of taking panoramic photos...

The panorama feature is actually part of iOS 6 rather than the iPhone 5. Simply upgrade the operating system on your 4S and you'll be able to take all of the panoramic photos you want .
