Vlogging?

Recently I started a thread to discuss Photography Gear for Minimalistic Traveller, and during the process of choosing cameras, I noticed, in all reviews, comments about the video features of each camera and uses for Video blogging.

Being an avid watcher of our Forums bag videos, I started to think about how to produce a video myself and decided to open a thread to discuss this and encourage others to jump in the wagon.

I know that is a very broad field to attack but any directions to start will be greatly appreciated.

Since I don't dare to narrate, I would like to start with some basic editing & assembling, adding soundtrack & captions. Any suggestions of software to do this?

I don't vlog at all, but I do some video editing for vacation videos. I use Pinnacle Studio on my ipad mini based on Miking's recommendation from this post: http://forums.tombihn.com/not-about-...html#post59700 and I love the program. It is super easy to use and can accomplish a lot. There is a desktop version as well, but I haven't use that at all.

I'm a vlogger and for the longest time I used iMovie which came with my Mac. It's simple, easy, and has a lot more features than you'd expect for free. I've since upgraded to Final Cut Pro but I still use the iMovie app when I shoot with my iPhone. If you have a PC, Pinnacle as mentioned above is a good suite. Adobe Premiere Elements is decent. If you're looking for something under $50 I hear good things about Sony Movie Studio. All of them should have the basic features you want. I hope this helps.

I think I choose the wrong title for the thread... I should have used something like "Minimalistic Video Maker" or "Travel Video Maker"... something like this as my main goal here is to make POV travel, bag review and packing videos for the Forums.

The funny thing is that in my original post I said I was an avid watcher of Forum videos and the maker of Pinnacle Studio is named Avid!

The Studio is perfect because it runs on multiple platforms including mobile (iPad) and sums up into a really compact setup!! Perfect, perfect!! Thanks a lot !!

I (still) use a windows notebook, and I planning to buy a iPad Mini so the Pinnacle looks like a perfect solution...

I am going to start to test it, if it is what it seems I will stick to it, if not I will consider migrating for an all apple setup!

I make videos occasionally.

The best advice I can give is to know the limits of what you can render, and the bitrate of where you happen to be uploading it. Yes, Youtube accepts 4k video, but the bitrate is trash; you'd be better off with 1080p @ a higher bitrate.

In addition, a gorillapod is a great investment.

I do my video editing with Sony Vegas and it's fine.

A good beginner's guide to making videos is The Little Digital Video Book , 2nd Edition, 2008, by Michael Rubin. Some of the technical stuff such as tape versus flash drive storage is dated, but there is very good information about shooting, organizing material, editing and producing short, relatively simple videos.

Hey eWalker, I am a bit late to the party but I made a little video describing some of the gear and techniques I use to make some fairly decent video with gear that all fits in the Freudian Slip for the S25 with lots of room left over for non-camera gear. The first part is the gear I have with me all the time for general photography and video and the second part starting with the lights is the gear you will probably find helpful if you are planning to make video reviews of bags and other things.
