Size does matter

I received my Tom Bihn 3D clear organizer cube and proceeded to attempt to fill it with my usual items that I normally pack in a 1 quart freezer ziploc brand bag.

However not all of the items fit. Hmmm, I thought.

I filled the TB cube with water and poured it into a measuring cup. Exactly 4 cups - 1 quart.

Then I filled the ziploc bag with water and zipped it up to be sure I was being exact. Poured it into a measuring cup. Surprise! The bag held 5.5 cups of water.

Which means a quart sized ziploc bag (the freezer variety anyway) is larger than a quart. And therefore holds more. And I am high maintenance when it comes to toiletries.

So I'll use my TB organizer cube for something else, because it really is very adorable.

I just thought this was an interesting observation.

tom designed it to be just the right size to meet TSA guidelines.

usually, not all of our toiletries are liquid - many are solid, including soap bars, shampoo bars, some deodorants, toothbrushes, floss, and razors, for example.

so, what i do is carry two 3d clear organizer cubes - one for solids and one for liquids. when you go through security, you can pull the one with the liquids out and leave the one with the solids in your bag.

Oh I'm not criticizing the cube at all - it is exactly one quart! Just saying, that if you need more than one quart a ziploc bag holds 1.5 cups more. But the cube is perfect for lots of other things, like makeup, jewelry, medications, etc.
