Travel pants with liners

About a year ago I bought a pair of Ex Officio travel pants which can convert to shorts after hearing so much about them. I discovered that I don't wear them much and the primary reason is they came with (for lack of a better description) a liner inside the pants similar to what you find in men's bathing suits.

For those of you who have similar pants, did you keep the liner or cut it out?

I don't like the idea of cutting the liner out but unless I'm wearing a bathing suit the idea of just using a liner (and no underwear) seems wrong. I wonder if people who like these pants like them in a large part because it has this liner, in which case then I'm just the odd duck.

Silly? Yes. But I'd like to know if I'm the only one.

Wow--wouldn't you have to wash them every day? I do a sink wash every three days or so on the road, but it's a lot easier to wash and dry little items like socks and undies than big stuff like pants. I'd hate to have to do them daily...

And with a liner, I can't imagine that they'd dry overnight. So you would need to pack at least two pairs in addition to the one you wear on the flight. Which kind of defeats the purpose of them as a light-packing item.

They're something like this pant but it doesn't say anything about the liner. They do wash easily and dry fast so they are great for travel. I love the Ex Officio underwear for travel also. I just can't get over the feeling of wearing swim trunks when I'm wearing pants/shorts. I assume since these are so popular that I'm just weird.

Go ahead and cut out the liner. I have a couple of pairs of shorts that I used to wear when whitewater canoeing and since I don't seem to be canoeing anymore I cut the liners out so that I could use them as every day shorts. Ex Officio makes some good travel clothing and I have two pair of their zip-off pants (without liners however). I usually travel with three pair of the Ex Officio underwear and wash them out every two or three evenings in the sink. Great products.
