    A gigantoid with a superego.

The first thing one must do is learn that they must adapt their uses to the bag. There will never be a perfect bag for you. I've made do with a Columbia sling bag to transport my wordly odds and ends to hither and yon but as those ends grew that poor bags fate was sealed. It just couldn't cope with the addition of a DSLR, lenses, flash, umbrella, sketchbooks, laptop, cables to choke a moose, ad infinitum.

In order to be prepared I need to carry at max capacity...

    1. Moleskine sketchbook (large)
    2. Moleskine notebook (small)
    3. 4 G2 pens (red, blue, green and black)
    4. 1 mechanical pencil and sleeve of leds
    5. 1 Kershaw leek (titanium)
    5. 1 Fenix flashlight L1dce
    6. 1 iPod and/or iPhone, earphones and assorted cables
    7. 1 17" Macbook pro and assorted cables
    8. 1 Pentax k10D with battery grip and 31mm lens attached (may be subsituted with assorted rangefinders or manual film cameras)
    9. 1-2 extra lenses
    10. 1 Vivitar Flash
    11. Film, memory cards, lens cleaning supplies, memory card reader, batteries, flash triggers, and asssorted cables
    12. 1 mini umbrella
    13. Assorted magazines
    13. Snacks
    14. a Towel

After an exhaustive search and much waffling and dismay I decided to go with the superego. The superego seems to handle carrying all those with aplomb. The craftsmanship on the bag is superb from the seems, stitching, zipper pulls used assortment of pockets and sizing it really is an excellent bag. However, there are a couple of nitpicks that will most likely relate to me only of which i will enumerate...

    1. The chosen strap (a nice wasabi color with the seat belt buckle) is about 1cm too short as the end that gets hidden away keeps popping out from the (insert technical name for the doohickey that hides the strap end). The extra reflector strap i ordered is perfectly fine.

    2. I opted for the absolute shoulder strap and was expecting to have the metal hook ends as shown in the photos. This would have been nice. As it is, the strap needs to be straightened every time the bag is put on where the swivel hooks would have alleviated that need. A nitpick I know but in daily use its eminently practical. I am unaware of the load bearing strength of the buckle connector but it would seem the hook may be stronger. I don't know.

    3. A nice addition to the superego would be an additional pocket underneath the main flap. I'd suggest 2 things a business card/id slot and a clear pocket for maps or at-a-glance calendar.

I wouldn't hesitate to consider a TomBihn for future widget conveyance needs for myself or anyone that asks.

You shouldn't have received a strap/strip like that. That's awful! Sorry about that. PM me your order number: we will send you a replacement strap right away.
Have a question? @Darcy (to make sure I see it)

Actually let me amend my statement by saying I restripped the strip and it is fine. It was perhaps velcro'd a little low but is a perfectly fine length.

I've searched but can't seem to find out what packing inserts may work with the superego as a quick weekender bag.

All told I am really liking the bag it is a quantum leap above what I had been using. I find my self drifting into the accessories page to see what other goodies I can find. BAD MOUSE!

Good to hear. After you've adjusted the strip so that it fits properly under the top piece of webbing, can you see the line of stitching near the buckle? That line of stitching should be hidden under one of the webbing sections, if the strip is the correct length.

If I were to use Packing Cubes with the Super Ego, I'd probably go with one large and two end pockets or one large, one end pocket, and one small. It would depend on what else I was carrying inside of the Super Ego.
