    Tri-Star for Business Travel Video

I finished my video on how I use my Tri-Star for business travel and have posted it on YouTube https://youtu.be/cNkY-mwY7cI

It’s my first go at a video review and found it a lot of fun. I kept thinking of all the Tri-Star tips I’ve learned from the forums and online over the years so kept adding bits in. It’s over 30mins so hoping there’s something in there for everyone.

So if your interested in the Tri-Star or even just to see the fantastic Steel/Island combo on video, check it out.

Just wanted to quickly let you know that your link has a parentheses "]" at the end so it goes to a 404 not found page. I manually removed the parentheses in my own link and reached the video alright, but you'll have to update the link here for everyone else.

Thanks. Edited and removed (I think). Appreciate you letting me know.

The link does work now! I only watched a few minutes since I didn't want to get into a long video, but it is a nice-looking bag.
I have a bunch of great bags. Favorite color combos include Aubergine/Island, Navy/Solar, Forest/UV, Original Halcyon/Wasabi, Cloud/Viridian... and now also Seapine/UV!

I've fulfilled my dream of palindromic-colored nested bags! Navy/Ultraviolet Pilot with Aubergine/Island Side Effect inside: blue purple purple blue. Forest/UV A45 with Aubergine/Wasabi Co-Pilot inside: green purple purple green.

Great review. I really liked how you marsupialized different bags like the Cadet, Ristretto, DLBC, and SCB in the Tristar. I always take my DLBP on every trip and pack it in the backpack strap compartment. I never thought to pack it in the inside. Will try that next time. I must admit I do not use my Tristar very much, instead opting for one of the Aeronauts, but am loathe to rehome it because I do love its solar interior. After viewing your video, I am inspired to make a more concerted effort to have the Tristar work for me.

Thanks for the feedback. I know what you mean about the solar interior and holding onto it. I actually had a Black/Solar Tristar at one point but traded it for the Black A45 which pops up in the video. I miss the solar but also love the island and I don’t think I could justify having two Tri-stars!

Great video, thank you for taking the time!

I appreciate you showing the Tristar with other bags, as it gives a good sense of size and what fits in it. I am thinking hard about purchasing one and joining the Steel/Island Appreciation Society. :) The Tristar's tendency to bulge concerns me a little bit though. What I do like is the possibility to use an Eagle Creek medium folder. I have a ballistic WF and it does fit, but is so tight that I am not comfortable using it. The extra couple of inches of the Tristar would be very welcome.

I also own an Airboss, however, it can get really heavy if full and has no backpack straps, so the Tristar is definitely tempting. Have you had any issues using it with European carriers (size/weight)?
Today is a good day for a good day!

When I first bought one back in 2014 I think, I used it exclusively for monthly trips from the U.K. to Switzerland on EasyJet. I was never questioned about the bag and that was one bagging it full to bursting.

I tried the Airboss too (and the mini boss). The airboss was just too much and therefore went back to the Tristar.

I don’t think the size of the bag would ever cause a problem on European airlines, perhaps the weight would though. But this is more about packing choices than the bag itself.

I wrote about it here with a packing list at the time. Way more than I’d carry now I must admit.

                    Hi @Perseffect,

I really enjoyed your video. On the day you posted it I was traveling back from a work trip with my Indigo/Solar Tri-Star from the very first production batch of that bag. What's particularly valuable for forum members is seeing the different combinations of bags and accessories used with this bag. We often get questions about the fit of the Cadet, Daylight Briefcase, Cafe Bags, various iPads, etc. within these bags, and end up referencing posts that discuss and show these combinations. It's really good to have a video that shows such a wide range of these combinations and how they fit into the different compartments. It's less usual to see the 11" Ristretto and the Small Cafe bag packed into the front divided pockets, although there are a number of pack-ups of the smaller Western Flyer that show the Small Cafe Bag in the front section.

About the only bag you didn't show in the center pocket is the Pilot, which I agree is thicker for that usage (I'd now go for the Daylight Briefcase, but you're correct that in a more formal setting the Cadet might be used). Again, I really liked the display of use of the horizontal zippered pockets at the front of the bag with items like the iPad, and also the use of the Double organizer pouch clipped into one of the front divided sections. And it was also really useful to see the different combinations of folders and Daylight Backpack in the back compartment, along with the Horizontal Freudian Slip for Tri-Star/Western Flyer.

Just a quick comment that although I carry the Tri-Star and am just under 5'4" (the usual dividing line for "petite" sizing), other women my size and smaller might find the extra weight afforded by a third, central compartment might outweigh the benefits of using a Tri-Star over, say, a Western Flyer. (I'll just state that for shorter trips of 5 days, most of my clothing fits into the Medium Tri-Star packing cube -- I do use the large packing cube for pants or a jacket. But if I need to carry extra letter-size papers, I can often stick them side by side in the large packing cube outside an Eagle Creek Medium size Specter II folder).

Also, I more frequently use the Side Kick now, but I sometimes used the center section of the Tri-Star to drop in a Little Swift. And I also sometimes use the water bottle pocket to carry a light rain jacket. I'm more likely to use the backpack strap pocket to stow an iPad in a cache than a laptop, even in the current era of slimmer, monolithic laptops.

                    Best,

                    moriond

                      Thanks for your comments @moriond.

One of the reasons that I didn’t show the Pilot is that I don’t have one at the moment.

However, both the Western Flyer and Pilot are in production for Steel/Island at the moment so if I purchase these, I can see another video in the works...

                      Thanks again.
