traveling with the aeronaut and side effect

hi folks,

the aeronaut and side effect accompanied me on a recent trip to india.

i wanted to share a few pictures from my trip...

the overhead compartment of the boeing 777 swallowed the aeronaut without any problems.

the aeronaut also fit very nicely into this smaller overhead compartment.

the aeronaut and side effect at doha international airport in qatar.

while the aeronaut is slightly larger than the sizing that qatar airways posts for carry-on luggage, you can see that the aeronaut will fit in their sizing check.

while qatar airways was not enforcing restrictions on the four flights i took, they may enforce them on routes where they operate smaller jets.

doha international airport does not have jetways. so you go up and down a flight of stairs to get on and off your airplane.

this is just another example where luggage choices like the aeronaut really shine.

another example are stairs at new delhi train station. you can easily go up and down stairs with your aeronaut on your back in order to reach the platform to catch your train. those with suitcases will hire a porter (a coolie) or struggle to carry their rolling suitcases up or down the stairs (there are no escalators).

yet another example are stairs in an airport terminal. you can walk down the stairs with your aeronaut on your back while those with suitcases stand on an escalator packed with other people with suitcases.

At some point, when you get the chance, I'd love to hear your thoughts on traveling with the aeronaut vs the tristar. You seem to take the aeronaut with you more often, at least on the longer trips. Is this just because of the capacity, or is there something else about the bags that leads you to reach for one as opposed to the other?

As you might guess, I'm dithering between the two.

i prefer the aeronaut for my trips to india because i can pack a crazy creek camping chair inside. i also like that i can pack chocolates into the front and back of the main compartment! :)

not that you can't use the aeronaut for business trips, but i prefer the tri-star for business trips for the compartment for the brain cell and horizontal freudian slip, as well as for the water bottle pocket.

if you prefer having a bag that is more compartmentalized, the tri-star is a great choice. if you prefer a bag that has a large main compartment, the aeronaut is a great choice. either way, you'll get a bag that is well suited to be carried onboard, comfortable to carry with the backpack straps or absolute shoulder strap, looks great, and built to last for life.
