the aeronaut meets their carry on sizing requirements, as does the co-pilot.

now, british airways, like many other airlines, allow a full size carry on plus a personal item. i also had my field journal notebook, and no one made a fuss about it. though, at least on the way there, i was able to put it into the co-pilot if anyone complained.

by the way, i provided some entertainment for the people waiting in line to board the plane at washington dulles international airport. oddly enough, they had never seen anyone take pictures of their bags in the carry on sizing checker.

aboard an atr-72 500 operated by kingfisher airlines. i flew this aircraft from DEL to ATQ and back.

the aeronaut was technically 2" too long for kingfisher's carry on sizing requirements for this aircraft. but it fit in the overhead compartment very nicely. lengthwise, it's a question of how much space your bag takes up.

from DEL to ATQ, no one batted an eye. there was someone onboard with a roll aboard suitcase sitting in the isle next to their seat because it wouldn't fit in the overhead compartment. my cousins flew the same route 2 days later and mentioned that someone had a roll aboard in the seat next to them because it wouldn't fit in the overhead compartment. welcome to india!

check i was checking in for the flight from ATQ to DEL, the person checking me in asked me to turn so she could see how big the aeronaut looked. without taking an official measurement, she dismissed it, saying it was fine.

i didn't have the co-pilot in the overhead compartment, but the second picture illustrates the approximate height of the overhead bin.

i usually kept the field journal notebook in the seat pocket in front of me. it is pictured here in the seat pocket of the ATR-72 500.

at amritsar airport's departure lounge for domestic flights. it's a tiny little airport - there is one gate for international flights, and one gate for domestic flights. when we arrived, we walked from the aircraft to the terminal. when we departed, the bus took us to the aircraft.

i don't know where else in the world this service is provided, but at delhi airport, you can have your bag shrink wrapped before you check it in.

Thank you for taking the time to share with us.

Your pictures are always great, they show your destination very well, the scale of the bags in relation to airport furniture and to each other.
You even take the time to be a handsome Tom Bihn model. :)

                              Thanks Maverick, greatly appreciated!
