Nov 2022 accessories VPC, Mesh Laundry Sack, Small Grab Bag

Here are some quick thoughts on the new accessories that debuted today. TB sent these to me free of charge. My opinions are my own.

Vertical Packing Cube (ETA oops! Cubelet)
I just want to get this out of the way: in my opinion, this should be called a Vertical 3DOC, because that is essentially what it is. It is handy to have a vertically oriented 3DOC! As Maia said, it fits well in the front pockets of Pilot and Co-Pilot, and it would also work well in the front left and right pockets on a Synapse or Synik or the side pockets of a Parental Unit, it would be great for anywhere you’d like top-access, really. Great for pens, spray sunscreen, or anything else you’d like to keep upright.


Small Grab Bag

I use my larger Grab Bag for snacks most of the time, since it can fit plenty for a group of fussy people. I’d use the small size for tech as the one I got has sturdier sides (it is the purple/green Mistah J Color) than my dark red Large Grab Bag. For trick or treating I filled the Small Grab Bag with various flashlights and my camera. For a trip I would fill it with chargers, my small white noise device, a spare battery and cables. It’s like a Small Snake Charmer if you had a couple of bulky items you didn’t want divided. (Thanks G42 for pointing out to me that the Grab Bag/Snake Charmers are the same sizes as each other!)


Travel Mesh Laundry Sack

Of all of the Laundry Sacks made by TB I think the mesh makes it the most versatile. Of course while travelling it lets dirty or damp socks air out. When home or away, it could be used as a very small minimalist gym bag. In the attached pics I have put a set of gym clothes in one side and small shampoo in the other side. I like these off-season uses for travel items, as I don’t like to have things that only get used on trips.

Thank you. I added a note to fix that above. Since the Cubelet is square I can’t reconcile a vertical Cubelet, but apparently a ‘packing cube’ has become generic enough in my mind that saying Vertical Packing Cube didn’t bother me, go figure! 🤣🤷🏻♀️

I also received a VPC, mesh laundry, and SGB courtesy of TOM BIHN - and my options are oh so definitely my own!


I love the VPC! (though 3DOC - vertical or V3DOC would've worked too...)

I think the 'vertical cubelet' thing is more about the orientation of the zipper... so it's like a Cubelet that grew taller or something... in any case, I've been using mine since I received it, in the front pocket of the Pilot and CoPilot.

The SGB is another useful and fun addition to the options for organization.

I ordered more SGB & VPCs... the mesh laundry is a logical extension of those stuff sacks, but overall I really prefer the laundry cubes just for how I pack.

TBH, it's much more fun to say "Rectanglet" than "Vertical Packing Cubelet."

Question on the mesh laundry- I haven't seen a good picture of the interior floating divider yet. I'm assuming it's made of halcyon (as a mesh divider doesn't really sequester things in my mind), but does it go as far down as the all fabric dividers go?

Great question! Yes it is Halcyon and it is deep enough to make full use of the space. Here are a couple of pics. One is with the divider pushed all the way into the mesh half to make it a non-mesh bag (but you can see through the mesh how deep it is) and the other is with the mesh folded back so you can see the bottom of the divider. Hope this helps!

Mesh divider goes pretty much the full length of the sack - I got one for testing, too, and liked the mesh because it helps me store spare hiking clothes I need to find/grab quickly (like a rain jacket) and pushing the fabric divider all the way down means I can see exactly what's inside. Game changer, considering I put all that stuff in a solid fabric stuff sack prior to getting the mesh laundry stuff sack.

The basic floating center divider is from the original Travel Laundry Stuff Sack. Go take a look at my pictures in the Laundry stuff sacks are here thread from 2014 for pictures. The divider is Halcyon (as in the original all Halcyon version), and acts like a wind sock. The difference is that half of the outside tube of the "sock" is mesh, so that when the divider is pushed all the way down one way, half the outside is halcyon and the other half (at the top) is mesh. When pushed all the other way up, everything is contained within Halcyon, and the mesh lies outside of the Halcyon sock portion. This is a very soft mesh that won't catch on things because it is scratchy.
