Tethering my Tripod to my Super Ego

Recently, I've been using my Super Ego as my camera bag. It works out pretty well for the most part--however there is no good way for me to have my tripod "in" the bag without me leaving part of the main compartment open.

So I started thinking, and then came up with a solution. (Amazing how when I actually try to think, things happen!)

Anyways, my Super Ego has the Q-AM strap, but I figured out a way to hook up my Tripod Bag to the bottom of my Super Ego. Pictures are below.

The gatekeeper clips as it turned out, work wonderfully! (I didn't have one of them on, as I have no use for a waist strap with the Q-AM strap.

So as I was marveling my ingenuity, I started to get concerned that all the was really holding up my Tripod Bag was that little bit of plastic. Then it dawned on me, flip the clip upside down, and use the closed bottom portion to hold the brunt of the weight! So I made the adjustment.

Anyways, just thought I'd share my experience.

Edit: The third picture also shows the much higher quality ballistic nylon that my Super Ego has compared to the exceptionally cheap nylon that was used in the Tripod Bag (hey, I guess I can't complain when the Tripod setup cost 33 bucks with bag, right?)

How do you carry the camera in the bag? Do you use some sort of camera insert?

I've just been putting it in there. I am looking at a Clik Small Camera Capsule for putting either in the front or the main compartment.

I have 2 of the small clik elite capsules, purchased over a year ago. I bought them to carry my camera in tote bags & backpacks. Did not quite work out for me. So one of them has been sitting around unused, still in its plastic bag.

It fits in my imago, but the imago pockets become useful only for flat items like filters in their flat cases, batteries in a mini tb padded pouch. Stuffing the inside pockets renders the outside front pockets unusable. I like being able to remove & put things in my bags easily.

It also fits in a small shop bag, but again, the end pockets lose expansion space.

It fits in the main compartment of the synapse, but the tapered shape of the synapse means the top part of the cube is pushed in to fit when the bag is zipped.

The top can be folded over to keep the top open.

I'm using the Small Clik case. I'm up in the air about it--it doesn't seem very well made. It's functional, but I don't necessarily feel like it's adding a whole lot of protection to my setup.

Anyways, that is how my bag is setup for work today. In the far back is my 13" MacBook Air in the TB Cache, then my Horizontal Freudian Slip. In the Clik case, I have my Nikon d3100 + 3 lenses (35 f/1.8, 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, 55-200 f/4-5.6). On the left side of the case are two small TB pouches (one fot holding my external HD, one dyneema holding my camera cables.) On the right side, my medium dyneema holding my MBA charger, TB cloth, and misc. cables. In the front, my TB Kindle Padded Pouch + Kindle.

I am dreaming of an Ego. The Super Ego seems BIG! Each time I look at it, I wish it were a back pack. :)

I am with you on the Clik. Not much to it - but it does serve the purpose of keeping my camera stuff together and provides some protection from dust. I use it as storage at home.
