Zenyatta and Seattle Approve of Their New Citizen Canine!

I took the girls (almost 5 month old Samoyed puppies) out to PetsMart yesterday for some socialization and we used our new Kiwi/UV Citizen Canine for the first time.

I have to admit I was skeptical reagrding the price vs what it is. All skepticism is gone. I have used a lot of treat training bags over the years. This is the first one I actually LIKE. Usually after using a treat bag a few times I go back to the "pocket method". Not this time, the Citizen Canine and I are going to be buddies for awhile. Ilove how it stays open so the treats are easy to get at at. I like that I was able to put my license and a credit card in the larger pocket so we could buy toys at the store. Luckily, we had no need for the “bags on board”, but it was nice to know they were there. Wish my iPhone fit in the pocket but you can't have everything....

    Highly recommended!

    White Star,
Any chance of pictures? You can of course, include pictures of the new bag too. :)

Dear White Star, I second Moose in asking for pictures of the lovelies!

In addition, a full bio of Zenyatta and Seattle would be greatly appreciated as well as extended narration about classes taken, milestones (potty training, first walk, first park outing....)

My excuse for all this nosy behavior is, one day I want to be a dog Mom and I want to learn as much as I can before taking the leap.

        backpack,
When (soon I hope) you decide to have a fur baby you will find unconditional love. Learning as much as you can is part of what will make you an excellent dog mom. Our fur buddies (even my beautiful but evil cat) offer up a love that is simply amazing. Its a commitment but one well worth making. I lived with a three pound yorkie for fourteen years. She was one of the top three best things in my life. I'd have another but I've commited to evil cat and she'd NEVER accept it. Heck she hardly accepts me. :) Go for it, you won't be sorry.
        Take care,
        Moose

Do you realize the danger of what you are asking??? I could talk about them for HOURS....

I tried valiantly to get a picture of them this morning with their Citizen Canine and they acted as if the devil himself was chasing them. Instead here is a picture from last Saturday.

Seattle (WhiteStar's An Affair To Remember) on the left, Zenyatta (WhiteStar's Ready To Run) on the right. Seattle is my cute little feminine package, Zenyatta is my big, leggy, doggy girl. They were born on September 9 (technically Seattle was born on the 10th via an emergency c-section after puppy #3 got stuck, but AKC only lets you pick one birthdate for a litter...). I am now proud to say I have not only the two of them, but multiple generations living in my house right now, going back to their 14.5 year old great-great-great grandmother Kachina (Abakan WhiteStar of Tundra Winds RN WSXM HIC).

They were supposed to start show training classes three Tuesdays ago, but in one of those freak of nature coincidences, every Tuesday has been cold or snowing and class has been cancelled. (It is in an unheated barn.) Meanwhile the rest of our winter days have been unseasonably warm and dry. Today, Tuesday, is no exception, the temps this evening are going to be around 10 degrees so once again, no class. Which is a bit scary considering the girls are supposed to be in their first show in 5 weeks.

We are "cheating" on the potty training. As you can see from the picture above, the girls are bizarrely happy to stay in what was the whelping box, now filled with wood shavings instead of blankets. Most puppies plan The Big Escape at about 5 weeks of age and end up in a pen until they go to new homes or migrate to kennels. For whatever reason, Zen and Seattle have never escaped the whelping box, so they are either in it, outside playing or under close supervision. (We will not talk about the fact that I have wood shaving all over my house, but sweeping/vacuuming wood shavings is way better than cleaning crates and stinky puppies every day after I get home from work.)

The girls will be going to a 5 day show in Denver next week with their Great Aunt Taiya (CH WhteStar's Gold Rush), Aunt Jamie (WhiteStar's True Lies) and Daddy Reno (WhiteStar's Treasure of the Sierra Madre) next week to work on socialization skills (and crate/potty training). It will be quite interesting to say the least. Their mom Babe (GCH WhiteStar's Ready For Anything) will be staying home, I'm worried she is going to go crazy missing her babies.

Lots more pictures of them (and their brothers and sister), when they were much younger, at their public page: Babe and Reno

          (Sorry you asked yet???)

They are ADORABLE! And they would make a nice contrast if side-by-side with my black Newfy. (Yukon does have a large white blaze on his chest, but otherwise, he's coal black.)

Did you visit the public page, too, and see all the pictures of their brothers and sisters in the whelping box? I especially liked the one with all of them lined up along the sides of the box for their last time together.

Seattle is named after her Aunt Ryan who died unexpectedly at the age of 4. Ryan was named after the actress Meg RYAN, her registered name was CH WhiteStar's Sleepless in Seattle HIC. For those of you who are familar with the movie, Sleepless in Seattle, you may get the tie in with Seattles registered name: the movie that Meg Ryan and Rosie O'Donnell watch, and that the movie is based on, is An Affair To Remember.

I second that! Gorgeous Sammies! :)

Do they know their show name as well as their given name? I mean the adults.

I'm so glad you posted the details! They are so adorable, and it really takes me back to my teen years, when our samoyed had a date with a very fine show dog and blessed up with 7 little white fluffballs. The pup we kept was my best friend for years. They are an amazing breed (though I've ended up with collies in my adult life, and they've also been wonderful). I always remember taking my dog to obedience training, and the instructor saying "you just need to show her who is in charge." My reply: "she knows that already, and it's not me!" When I found the dog personality book that said sammies are great problem solvers but not so devoted to pleasing people, it all made sense :)
