Another thing that made me happy is my 36 oz. Yeti Rambler thermos fits on the outside of the Brain Bag. It might be a little heavy compared to, say, my smaller Zoji bottle, but it’s worth it because it keeps my drinks super cold and the ice is still there the next day.

Slightly off topic, but do you find the yeti superior to zojirushi? We have three Z mugs, and I can't imagine anything keeping beverages hotter/colder for longer. (As I type this, I'm drinking iced coffee that's been in an un-lidded Z mug for four hours and the ice still hasn't melted.)

I finally got around to finishing my DLBC Camera Bag today, using my new Azure Daylight Briefcase. I carry a Panasonic Lumix Dx8 m4/3 camera, which isn't too large, and only a small accessory kit, so the DLBC is the perfect size. For this I used a Tenba BYOB 9 insert which was already in my closet, and is just right for leaving enough space on one end to tuck in a water bottle. My camera accessories went into 2 pouches tucked into the front pocket and attached via keystrap. I can also add my wallet and iPhone (either alone, or in a 3D Organizer Cube with tiny shoulder strap) when needed. And for traveling light, the iPad Mini fits into the back pocket and can be used for on-the-go processing with LightRoom Mobile.

I was feeling a little guilty about getting the Azure DLBC when I already had a Black DLBC which I never use, but not anymore!

Love your photos. One thing I hadn't realized is that the webbing used for the new Cafe Bags (ever since the Ballistic Cafe Bag Options debuted, but also now applying to all Cafe Bags) had also carried over to all the Standard Straps (supplied with the DLBC, Co-Pilot, Pilot, etc.) These are smooth and satiny, and aren't as floppy as the last generation of the Cafe Bag webbing, but also not as stiff as the old Cafe Bag straps that they switched to around 2011.

@moriond, I was noticing the same thing about the shoulder strap. The one you see here in the picture is actually the old style, because I had swapped the one that came with the bag (with the basic plastic pad) for the one on my old black DLBC that has the upgraded pad. After further consideration I'm likely going to swap them back, and swap the upgraded pad, because the thinner, lighter material will be a better fit for a lightweight carry.

Yes, I can see that the strap with the DLBC in your picture is the old webbing (the fact that you can see the ridges in the webbing gives it away). But I hadn't previously noticed that the new Standard straps all use the new webbing, which is pretty satiny and flexible. Glad you like it.

How does this setup work for grabbing the camera on the go? Does the bag open fully?

It works well. The zipper on the bag opens all the way across the top, and I keep the camera in the middle, so it is easy to grab and pull out. Probably helps that my camera is an m4/3, so even though it’s a larger m4/3 it’s not on the order of pulling out a full-size dSLR.

I really like the Yetis. At home I use the 30 oz. Rambler cup. If I fill it about 1/2 to 2/3 with ice in the morning, it will still have ice in it the next morning. Over the weekend, I took along my 18 oz. Rambler bottle when I was out and about and left it in a hot car for a few hours, and although the ice had melted, the tea was ice cold the next day. However, I can’t speak to how well Yetis keep drinks hot because I like cold drinks. But Mr. pammy uses a 10 oz. Lowball at the office for his coffee and is very happy with it. I do like the Zoji bottles because they are very lightweight and do a good job of keeping my drinks cold but the ice melts quicker. I originally bought one to keep in the water bottle pocket of my Copilot, but found that it’s very handy size to use in other TB bags too. I think you can’t go wrong with either brand.

Man, you must have bought those at least a year ago. I would love to get hold of Sitka anything! Every once in a great while a Sitka item will pop up on eBay. You have some lucky bridesmaids!

I think you may have sold me on the DLBC. I've been wondering if I could do what you did but hadn't found anyone that tried (Oly user). I'm going to gather this is probably a no, but can you possibly slide a 9.7/10.5 iPad or Surface Pro in there, or does the BYOB 9 effectively eat up that depth?

I don't think a Surface Pro would fit, but I'll try to remember to test mine (which has a keyboard cover attached) when I have it out later. A full-size iPad would probably fit, either inside or in the back pocket, but I only have an iPad Mini so I can't test that one.

Unearthed my travel mug for colder playground days. Found that the handle fits well in the strap clip! I wouldn't go jogging with it this way or anything but it is secure enough to walk with it this way, or push kids on swings, tie shoes, etc.


This is how the handle fits in. The handle is narrow enough to slide all the way down into the clip.
