I just got some of the new packing cubes. I've been using my Western Flyer more often, so I bought two of the small WF cubes, in wasabi and violet. They are more functional than the old style, IMO. The aether sides help the cubes keep their shape and make them easier to pack, and I like that it is now see-through when the cube is laid flat. Not to mention that the colors add function. It's a lot easier to find my stuff when everything isn't in an identical black container.
Their fit in the WF is obvious, since that's just a rectangle, so instead, here is a photo of how two small WF cubes fit in the Smart Alec. It's actually quite good! I've used three small and end A30 aether cubes in the past, which completely fill the SA. These go in more easily, letting me cinch the backpack so that it is less bulgy, or letting me slip other odds and ends around the side or front. There is also space left at the top of the pack. Packed this way, I feel like the Smart Alec could hold about 3/4 to 7/8 of what fits in the Western Flyer, without losing its shape?
So glad to see the WF getting its own accessories for once, along with its larger cousins! At first I was disappointed that there was no laundry version. However, by adding a an Eagle Creek half-cube inside (which is 18g; almost insignificant in terms of added weight), there is a built-in place for a small amount of clothes, which should suit my needs for a weekend trip.
The EC "laundry insert" is the blue bag:
I also got the small and large laundry cube for the A30. They seem great. I did not practice-pack them yet, but I intend to use them on my next longish trip where the A30 is needed.Last edited by bchaplin; 03-27-2018, 03:52 AM.----

To go along with the Coyote trim of my Synapse 25 Guide's Edition (Deep Blue/Coyote), I recently ordered some additional Coyote Accessories:
The Small Double Organizer Pouch in the bottom right is Ballistic Nylon. One of the surprisingly nice color combinations is Coyote/Island in the Pocket Pouch just above the Small DOP. (When I called in to check color availability on the pouches, it turned out that they had made up some new PPs, including a few with Island interiors -- the first time for a while that my query on new PPs has come back with a "yes"). The Ice Axe Straps at the left are for general bag hacking, as well as for securing small diameter objects through webbing loops. (Some previous use examples were carrying extra napkins secured to the outside of the Citizen Canine when I turned it into a Picnic Kit in this post. You can find more pictures of Coyote accessories in @Jaraxte's old Coyote - the unsung hero? thread.) I'm using these as strap extenders for hacking the Sprout.

Last trip to Philly for work aboard the Amtrak. Returning my work laptop (15" MacBook Pro), phone and accessories, but also carrying my personal laptop (12" MacBook), iPad, phone and accessories inside -- I packed in the Synapse 25 + Travel Cubelet.
I have really enjoyed the trips up and down the East coast aboard Amtrak, and packing in TOM BIHN bags has made travel a joy! Accomplices over the years have included the Synapse 19 and 25, the Smart Alec, the Brain Bag, the Founder's Briefcase, the Daylight Briefcase, the Pilot, the Luminary, the Western Flyer, and the Tri-Star.
Thank you, TOM BIHN, for making packing for work travel so super easy!-m

But the bag that surprised me was the duffel with the early TB label. It’s quite a large bag, larger than my A45. And because of that, I rarely use it and had it out to decide whether I wanted to trade or sell it. But in my time crunch to pack, I grabbed it and loaded it up with winter wear and it worked out great. It’s similar to the A45, but has a zippered divided pocket across in the front and the zippered pocket across the back. I can’t believe how much it held, very impressive.

And because I wanted a messenger type of bag for my Side Kick and ipad and other things, I took the Imago. I like to switch around what bag to use for church, so it was out, and it worked like a champ. Would love to see a revamped version, an Imago 2, with larger cell phone pockets and a water bottle pocket.

My husband went to Seattle on a business trip and was able to stop by the Tom Bihn store for the first time. He FaceTimed me while he was there (I was so excited)! I had him get me a Pop Tote and a Small Wasabi Travel Tray. He bought a hat...don’t know which of us is planning on wearing it.. Still waiting on my DLBP and stuff to arrive.
